Scorpius Malfoy
Father,
I'm sorry about yours and mum's separation. I truly am, although like you said it doesn't surprise me. But, I am here whenever you need me.
As for this upcoming winter holiday, I have decided that I will be spending most it at the Potter's. Albus has invited me and I have gladly accepted. I will of course, be spending Christmas Eve with you and Christmas day with mum, but after that I will head back to the Potter's until the start of next term.
I will see you on Christmas Eve.
Love,
Scorpius
Scorpius attached his letter to his owl and sent her on her way. He then returned to packing his trunk. It was now mid December and Scorpius was preparing for the train ride back to King's Cross Station in London to begin his Christmas holiday.
Over the past few weeks, Scorpius had come into little contact with Rose Weasley. There had been a few curt nods in the hallway and a 'hello' every now and then. They had yet to address the elephant in the room, the kiss. Scorpius was hoping over the break he'd have an opportunity to talk with her.
There was a knock on his door. His roommate Lawrence entered, "Albus wants me to tell you that you should get downstairs quickly or he's going to hex your arse off."
Scorpius chuckled. "Alright then, can't keep his highness waiting any longer. Wingardium Leviosa," he levitated his trunk into midair and had it follow him and Lawrence out of his dorm room.
They both exited the Ravenclaw tower and Scorpius wondered why Lawrence was still following him. He was a bit of a strange bloke. "Why are you following me?" Scorpius asked, regretting how rude it sounded.
Lawrence smirked. "You know Malfoy, you're not the only one going home for the winter holidays."
"Oh right, Of course." Scorpius stared sheepishly down at his feet.
His roommate laughed. "Alright, well I'll see you after the break. Happy Christmas Malfoy." He smirked to himself and stuck his hands in his pockets, as he trudged toward a group of students waiting for the carriages. Scorpius didn't know why, but he liked Lawrence. He made a deal with himself to get to know Lawrence better after the break.
He spotted Albus in amongst a crowd of students also waiting for the carriages to take them to the train platform. Scorpius made his way to Albus, who was standing with his cousins Louis and Fred and his brother James.
"So Malfoy, you coming to spend the holidays with the good old family?" said James, putting an arm around Scorpius's shoulder. James was a good few inches taller than Scorpius, which caused Scorpius to look up at James.
"Yeah, your own family not good enough?" piped in Fred, who received a cold glare from Albus. Scorpius chuckled, even though the question wasn't that funny.
"You have it exactly right, Weasley." Scorpius replied, smirking in Fred's direction.
James removed his arm from around Scorpius's shoulder and quickly looked around making sure no one but the five of them could hear. He gestured toward them. "Listen mate," he whispered, "If you don't make a move on my cousin during the break, I will personally hex out of oblivion" James then patted Scorpius on the back. "Alright fellas, better get ourselves a carriage."
The boys headed off toward the carriage, so they didn't see the slight color of pink appear on Scorpius's cheeks.
Rose Weasley
"Hey Rosie, do you mind if I come over during break to visit Louis? Since he is staying at your house," Jo asked nonchalantly, picking at her nails.
Rose quickly glanced at her cousin Lily, who didn't look in her direction, for she was staring out the compartment window. "Uh, sure Jo. I don't care, I mean Louis can have whoever he wants over."
"Splendid!" Jo smiled, then went back to looking at her nails.
Rose leaned her head against the window glass, staring out at the pacing scenery. Honestly, she didn't know how much more of Jo she could handle. Jo seemed to have had a huge change in her personality ever since she started dating Louis. She was acting more and more like the girls her and Rose used to make fun of. Which was fine, but she's not the same girl Rose became best friends with. Rose hopped it was just a phase.
Rose was lost in thought, when she heard a knock on the compartment door. She glanced up and was shocked to find Flora Brown standing there, beckoning to Rose. Nither Jo or Lily seemed to notice, so Rose quietly slipped out.
Flora looked horrible. She seemed to have been crying and her usually sleek, curly hair was a huge pile of frizz. "Flora, are you okay?" asked Rose, who couldn't help be feel sorry for her.
Flora stared down at the floor. "Um, Rose, could I talk to you for a minute?" Rose glanced behind her into the compartment, making sure Lily and Jo weren't watching.
"Sure," said Rose awkwardly.
The girls walked down the train's corridors. They walked till they reached the end of the train where the boy's and girl's bathrooms were. Rose stopped by the girl's bathroom and pushed her hair behind ear, nervously awaiting what Flora had to say.
Flora seemed just as nervous as Rose, if not more. Rose noticed Flora fidgeting with her hands and her forehead was laced with perspiration. Her face also looked as red as Rose's hair. Rose couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl. Even though Flora had been absolutely rotten to her since first year, Rose still felt a small tug at her heart.
"Flora," Rose asked softly, "Are you alright?"
Flora took a deep breathe. "Rose, I wanted to say I'm sorry."
Rose was taken aback. Did Flora just apologize? Before Rose could say anything, Flora started up again.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry for how badly I've treated you all these years. And especially with the whole Scorpius thing. I know how you feel about him and I just had to rub it in your face by kissing him at the Halloween party and I'm sorry. I guess I've just always been jealous of you Rose. You have such an great life! You have good grades, teachers love you, you're pretty, you've had boyfriends who don't cheat on you, you have true friends who want stab you in the back, and you actually have a family. No matter how big and rambunctious they are, you still have them." Towards the end, tears started to pour down Flora's face and Rose couldn't take it anymore. She pulled Flora into a hug and let her cry on her shoulder.
After about a minute, Flora pulled back wiping at her eyes. "Thanks," she mumbled. "And I really mean it Rose. Ugh, why do you always have to be so nice to people," Flora exclaimed, but a smiled appeared on her face.
Rose smiled too. "Look, it will take me awhile to forgive you, especially after the toilet incident in third year. But as far as I'm concerned, we're friends on trial. And if you ever need someone to talk too, I'll be here." Rose pulled Flora into a hug.
As both of the girls pulled apart, the train lurched to a stop. "I guess I better go get my stuff," Flora said looking down the corridor full of students emerging from their compartments.
"Me too," said Rose, eager to go meet her parents.
"Alright, well Happy Holidays Rose. See you next term," Flora gave Rose a genuine smile as she disappeared into the mass of students trying to get out onto Platform 9 3/4. Rose looked through a window, scanning the platform for her parents. A smile appeared on her face when she spotted her them, Hermione and Ron Weasley.
