December 31: Frustration and Fuckery

A gentle knock on the door startled Wednesday awake. She had placed a standing order for breakfast and a 7am wake up call for the duration of the two days remaining of their trip. She threw on a robe and met the attendant at the door. Breakfast was quickly laid out under her watchful glare, the staff member tipped, and an exit hastily made.

Wednesday slunk back into the bedroom. Enid was still sprawled out in the bed like a naked starfish. She chuckled and smiled to herself, 'that's my wife to be.' She smirked. The bed slightly dipped as Wednesday tried to surprise her lover. However, the second she was in reach Enid instinctively reached out and yanked her close. Wednesday yelped as Enid pulled her into her body wrapping herself around Wednesday and nuzzling into her neck. "Good morning Wends." She cooed. "Good morning Mi Amore." Wednesday sighed contentedly. "Who was that?" Enid questioned her eyes still closed. "That my darling was our breakfast." Wednesday smirked as Enid shot up in bed. A lop sided grin on her face. "Well, what are we waiting for then?" Enid laughed. She let Wednesday go and watched as she slowly backed off the bed. She handed her wolf a robe which Enid put on. Breakfast was consumed. Showers were had. Warm, comfortable clothing put on, and they were off for the day hand in hand. They met the other authors, staff, and Fester in front of the Marriott.

Marcus handed out the itinerary for the day. It was packed with sightseeing, photo ops, and PR opportunities. It wasn't mandatory, and at any point an author and their guests could choose to exit and make their own way across town to meet later at the Gala event.

Fester opted not to attend the events of the day. It was simply too public. Wednesday understood. Enid gave him a supportive smile as they parted ways. The girls entered the sightseeing bus with the other authors and guests. The unfamiliar weight of a ring box in each of their pockets. The weight of what they each wanted to do on their minds. Both were giddy in their own way. Wednesday allowed Enid to pull her to the top deck of the open air bus. They situated themselves near the back snuggled into each other as the sights and sounds of New York City passed them by.

The tour was iconic. It hit every stereotypical touristy thing to do in the city. Pictures were taken blurbs were written and videos posted on social media. Ms. Green was kept extremely busy. She was always involved in something. Always just on the edge of Wednesday's peripheral vision. Not encroaching too much, but definitely noticeable. Her doting assistant was in tow for the entire thing like a dutiful shadow. Running errands, keeping pace, offering her hot tea, coffee, and water, even an apple and small sandwich at one point. She was always handy with a flash drive, SD card, or an entirely different camera. It's like she could read Ms. Green's mind. They seemed in sync and very close as the day went on. Even stealing moments off on their own.

The tour ended several hours later after several botched proposal attempts with both Wednesday and Enid angry, and frustrated beyond belief. Nothing in particular had gone wrong, unless you count an attempt on Wednesday's life, an attempted wolf napping, an unexpected visitor, a few injuries, and a few dozen unwelcome advances throughout the day. Then again, that sounds about right for our girls. At the end of the day, Hannah and her assistant Ann, Enid and Wednesday exited the Addams Family hearse to head back to The Marriott and the Ritz respectively to relax and change before the night's events and the Gala. Marcus stayed with the group.

The proposal Attempts:

Number 1. Enid: Empire State Building

The bus stopped in front of 20 West 34th Street. Enid looked up. All the way up. Vertigo hit her hard. She swallowed around the lump in her throat. She is going to do this. It will be iconic. It will be epic. It will be insta worthy. She is going to do this. She is going to do this. She took a very deep shaky breath. She gripped Wednesday's hand tightly. "Enid, are you ok?" Wednesday asked a slightly panicked Enid as they stepped off the bus with the other guests. Enid nodded. "Totally. Peachy. I love it already." Enid squeaked out. Wednesday gave her a side eyed look, but decided to let it go. Marcus gave them their tickets for the attraction, and Enid's plan was set into motion. They would ride the elevator to the open air observation deck. They would take in the breathtaking views of the city. They would kiss. Enid would pretend to have to tie her boot then she'd produce the ring and pop the question. Easy. Simple. Except it wasn't.
