CHAPTER 13 – All Was Well

The next morning, Jeff wakes up early and decided to cook some eggs. While cooking his phone rings and he picks it up, "Hello?" He asked into the phone. "Jeff it's me, Jonny." Jonny spoke. "Did I catch you in a bad time?" He asked. "No, I'm already up, just cookin' some breakfast. What's up?" Jeff asked.

"I'm in Paris right now, outside my hotel waiting for a cab to bring me back to the airport and I was wondering if you've heard anything regarding dad's health." Jonny asked.

Jeff puts the eggs into a plate, toasted the bread and set it nicely on the dining table before going out into the beach to talk to Jonny.

"Dad's health? Like what do mean?" Jeff asked. Through the phone, Jeff could hear the hard rainfall in Paris. Jonny had to shout on the phone, "Jerry called me earlier and told me that dad had a seizure yesterday." He said. "Is it serious?" Jeff asked now sounding more alert and concerned.

"I don't know yet that's why I'm asking you. Jerry's not answering and mom probably doesn't check her phone and I can't contact Amanda and Olivia. I need to know what's going on, Jeff." Jonny said worried apparent in his tone. "Jonny just calm down. I'll get to the bottom of this, okay?" Jeff said and then hung up the phone.

Jeff quickly texts George, the neurosurgeon from Washington D.C. asking if Gen. James Arthur Sage is a patient and to know what his condition is before acting on it quickly. Then he calls Jerry's phone and luckily he answers.

"Jerry tell me what's going on with dad!" Jeff demanded. "Jeff, just breathe. Just calm down, please." Jerry begged. "What is going on, Jerry?!" Jeff asked angrily.

"Dad has a tumor on his brain." Jerry said.

Jeff dropped the phone and broke down like literally sat on the sand. He slowly picked up the phone again, "What?! I was just with him recently! He showed no signs of sickness. How can it be?" He snapped.

"Jeff, as of the moment, we don't know. Look, I'm sorry you had to find out this way, I didn't want to disturb your little getaway with Jane. You two deserve to have some time alone. But right now, I'm sorry to say this but you got to get on a plane and come here to DC." Jerry said.

"Look, Jerry I don't care if I'm on vacation or elsewhere, no one is as important to me as my family, our family. So always inform me or call me in times like these." Jeff said and hung up the phone. "Damn it!" He yelled.

As he turned around he sees Jane and she quickly hugs him. Jeff sank into her, cried and hugged her back. "It's gonna be okay." She said. Jeff sobs some more, "We better go get our things if you wanna make it to JFK." She added and holds Jeff's hand. "Okay." Jeff answered and they both go inside the house.

Both of them hurriedly packed up their things and threw them in the car. After double checking and making sure every door was locked and all the electronics were turned off, Jeff goes inside his car along with Jane and hit the pavement. So after driving for three hours straight, they both arrive in New York and went straight to JFK to catch a flight to Washington DC.

As soon as they arrive, they catch a cab and went straight to the hospital. When they enter, Jeff asks one of the nurses in their station where his father was and thankfully they answered him.

While holding Jane's hand, and walking towards the hallway, two bodies in two stretchers were rushed to the ER. Jeff didn't catch a glimpse of the first body that passed through them but he did see the second one...

... And it happened to be Mia.

Jeff quickly lets go of Jane's hand at the sight of Mia. He followed the doctors and nurses who were pushing Mia's stretcher until they entered the operating room where Jeff wasn't allowed anymore. He shook his head and tears started forming in his eyes, "What's going on? What happened to her?" He asked the nurse that blocked him. "I'm afraid that's classified." She replied.
