CHAPTER 8 – Surprising News

“Wow and just like that she dumped your sorry ass.” Bradley said with a laugh. “That’s not the point, you douchebag!” Trip replied and punched Jeff. “The question is, how did you even fall in love with a girl you barely know in just a week?!” Chase asked. “I don’t know guys. It just happened.” Bradley replied. “I’m still wrapping my head around the whole ‘falling in love’ thing.” Chase said. “Yeah, Jeff you don’t seem like the type to fall in love that quick.” Trip said. “I know!” Jeff agreed and chugged his beer. “And it’s been a week since my trip and I can’t stop thinking about her.” Jeff said and loosened his tie. “What did you say her name was?” Bradley asked. “Dr. Mia Dupree.” Jeff replied. “Woah this girl is amazing. Not only is she gorgeous, she’s also a genius!” Bradley exclaimed as he showed everyone Mia’s google articles and profiles on her. “Even her dog has a reputation.” Bradley jokes. Jeff strokes his hands through his hair as he looks down in distraught. “Too bad she lives in Washington.” Trip said and sips his beer. “I know.” Jeff whined.

So as they finish drinking and partying in one of Bradley’s clubs in New York, they go home to their respective apartments. Jeff crashes on his bed and goes to sleep until his phone rang. “Hello?” Jeff said in a very sleepy and drunk voice. “Is this Dr. Jeffrey Liam Sage?” A woman asked. “Y-yeah who is this? And why are you calling me at this hour?” He retorted, feeling tired to even listen on. “It’s Mia, I just wanted to say hi and wondering if you’re okay. I’m still swamped with a lot paper work to do…” She replied and Jeff already fell asleep. So when she heard Jeff snoring, she just hung up the call and felt a little worried.

The next morning, Jeff wakes up with a huge headache. He rolled over his bed to look at the time and it was already twelve noon, thank goodness it was a Sunday. He took off the clothes from last night and only wore his boxers. As he begins to cook something licks him on the feet. “What the?!” He exclaimed as he saw a white French bulldog puppy. “Why the fuck is there a dog here?” He asked himself. “Jeff! Thank god you’re awake.” Bradley shouted as he entered inside from the balcony holding a glass of scotch in his hand and talks on his phone. “How the fuck did you get inside?!” Jeff exclaimed as he shoves Bradley. “The key was under the plant.” Bradley casually said it as he finally finishes the conversation on his phone.

“Dude, seriously! You’re breaking and entering, I should call the cops.” Jeff said as he points a ladle at Bradley. “You found the dog!” Bradley says merrily. “Speaking of this dog, what the fuck is it doing in my apartment, and what the fuck are you even doing here?!” Jeff exclaimed. “Okay, so I’m dating this girl and she won’t give up that easily so I’m sorta courting her and shit and she gave hints that she wanted a dog and I bought the wrong one.” Bradley said quickly. “Since you told us that you wanted a dog I was hoping if you would keep her, I mean this white French bulldog puppy.” Bradley added. “You and your fucked up mind are ridiculous. So you want me to keep this cute dog?” Jeff retorted. “Thanks, man. I owe you big time. By the way, it’s a she. Ciao!” Bradley said and left his apartment. “I didn’t even say yes! FUCK!” Jeff yelled as Bradley closes the door.

Jeff picks up the dog, “I’m gonna call you, Crania – because I love the skull and neurosurgery is my specialty.” He said, quickly bonding with the white French bulldog puppy. “Bradley is a douchebag right? That fucker abandoned you, well fuck him.” He said speaking to the dog and put her down. Jeff calls up his older brother, Jeremy “Jerry” Preston Sage who is a big time Criminal Defense Attorney and took over his mother’s law firm, “Are you busy?” Jeff asked. “You know I’m always busy, what do you want?” Jerry asked. “You’re the one with kids and a dog right?” Jeff asked. “Yeah, so?” Jerry asked. “What am I supposed to do or buy for a dog?” Jeff asked politely. “Are you kidding me right now? I’m in a middle of a hearing, call Jonny or something. I’ll see you at Madison’s birthday.” Jerry said and hung up the phone. “Thanks for no help.” Jeff whined as he sat on the couch.
