CHAPTER 27 - Taking It Up A Notch

Fourteen weeks have gone by and day after day, night after night, Jeff and Mia spend more and more time together. Going on silly romantic dates, staying home and watching Netflix or play video games on Jeff's play station, going on food trips, watching sports, going on jogs and exercises, they did all kinds of couple-y stuff.

But lately they haven't seen much of each other because of their demanding jobs. Jeff's super busy with two jobs being a professor by day and a full-time neurosurgeon. Mia is busy with her research funded by NASA.

When people found out about their relationship everyone kept on doubting that they're crazy to do it but to the two of them this was perfectly normal. They knew what they were going into and they know how hard it is.

Their solution to this was to see each other as much as they can during both their free times even if it's only just a while and they make every moment together count.

So it was a normal Sunday afternoon, Jeff just got home from the hospital and was continuing work by doing some paperwork while Mia stepped out for a while.

On his iMac, aside from doing paperwork, he was secretly buying two tickets to Palawan, Philippines and booking a villa in Amanpulo, Palawan for one whole week for Mia's birthday on Thursday next week and they're set to leave for the Philippines Saturday of this week.

Then he hears Mia come in and directly print the tickets and hid it under his pile of papers. "Jeff, I'm here and I brought pizza." She yelled and headed to his kitchen. Jeff brings some of his papers and went out of his office and walked to the kitchen.

He hugs Mia from the back as she opens the pizza, "Best girlfriend ever!" He said with a laugh and kissed her cheek. Mia laughs, "Why are you still in a suit?" She asked. "Just got back from the hospital." He said and got a slice of pizza.

"So how was your day?" She asked and grabbed a slice. "Killer. I had surgery yesterday til this morning and then did a report on something while grading papers and then decided to just finish work here." He replied. "Jeff, you shouldn't be so overloaded. That could lead to stress, sleep apnea, insomnia and unhealthy habits." She said. "I'm a surgeon and a professor that's what I do, Mia. I am aware of the illnesses that I can catch from my habits but I'm already used to it. I've been a surgeon for more than four years now and a professor for two year and it's been amazing." He replied.

"I just don't want you to get stressed out and have that take a toll on you. Plus it's hard for me to squeeze in to see you because you are so busy." She said with a pout. "I'm already stressed everyday especially when I have surgeries and classes to attend to. I'm trying to balance everything now that you're in the picture because I want this to work, Mia." He replied.

"I know you're trying, I'm just saying that you have to give up one of those responsibilities because it's not just about you now. And sooner or later, your body might not be able to handle all of it." She spoke her mind.

Jeff nodded, "I understand where your coming from, Mia. But don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing." He said. "I care about you, okay? I just don't want to lose you." She said. He held her hand and kissed it, "You won't, I promise." He said.

"Wait, why do you have two jobs again? Isn't one enough? Aren't you secured with one?" She asked. He chuckled, "Teaching at Columbia is one way for me to give back to the school who molded me into who I am today. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for that school." He said proudly. "Can't you just give donations every year?" She joked and he laughed.

Then they both go back to working, Mia's doing her research while Jeff's reading a file of a patient. And while they're both in front of each other, they steal glances from time to time. Mia looks at Jeff while eating pizza, Jeff flips a page and looks at her with the edge of his lip curling up. It was cute.
