CHAPTER 28 - Love Needs No Explanation

It was just another normal day in Jeff's every day life. He just finished doing surgeries and grading papers and decided to head home and finish packing for his trip this weekend with Mia.

And as he arrives, his phone rings and he picks it up, "Hey Jeff, it's Jonny. I just wanted to remind you that Olivia's surprise party is at 7. Please don't be late." Jonny said. "Tonight?" Jeff asked. "Yeah why'd you think I called?" Jonny answered.

Jeff looked at the time and saw that it was already five in the afternoon. He laughed faintly, "Okay! See you Jonny!" He said and then dropped the call. He was flustered, he completely forgot that it was tonight and forgot to buy Olivia a gift.

Then someone rings the doorbell, Jeff hurriedly opened it only to find... Mia.

"Mia?" He greeted her with a confused look and kissed her cheek as he invited her in. "You forgot didn't you?" She said while holding something. "Of course not! What did I not forget?" He asked with a pale laugh.

Mia showed him a rectangular box that is beautifully wrapped in wrapping paper. "Olivia's surprise party is tonight, Jeff." She said holding in her laugh. "I was about to call you." He said and hugged her. "When did I find the time to tell you?" He asked. "Yesterday before we rendezvoused with our friends." She replied with a smiled.

Jeff kisses her forehead, "Oh gosh, you saved my life!" He said with a smile. "You look gorgeous by the way!" He added. "Ha-ha very funny, now go and put on something nice." Mia said and kissed Jeff on the cheek. Jeff laughs, "I'll be five minutes." He said and quickly went up the stairs.

He goes down and wears a navy blue colored shoal cardigan with a hoodie over his white buttoned down shirt with a collar and khaki colored jeans paired with black leather shoes. He brushed up his hair to the side and shaved his 5 o'clock shadow. While Mia wore a black sheath dress with short sleeves and black high heels. She put on minimal and natural make up and let down her straight hair.

"Mia, lets go." He said and quickly grabs the keys. Then suddenly remembered to feed Crania and then grabbed Mia's hand as they go outside. He locks his door and they both go in the car then hit the pavement.

While driving, "So my parents are gonna be there. My dad is a Four Star General of the US Marine Corps. My mom is a world renowned Criminal Defense Lawyer..." He gets cut off. "Are you kidding me? Your dad drives bad guys away while your mom protects and defends criminals?!" Mia reacted. "I know, it's weird but they love each other so it's cool." Jeff replied. "Jerry, my oldest brother is a corporate and merge and acquisitions lawyer and current head of my mom's firm. While his wife, Amanda, is a family lawyer. They have two kids named Madison and Kimmy." He said while Mia nodded.

"Jonny, my other older brother is a pilot and wants to be an astronaut one day." Jeff said with a smile. "He should meet my dad and my brother." She joked and he smiles. "While his significant other, Olivia is an interior designer." He added.

Then Jeff speeds up even if it's a a blind curve, "Jeff, don't rush, just relax." Mia said. Jeff calmed down, breathed in and out and closed his eyes as the car comes to a stop. "What's up with you today? Why are you such a mess?" She asked.

He sighed as his eyes are fixated on the road, "Uhm, after I had my surgery today, Feder came up to me and told me to take it easy." He said. "What do you mean take it easy?" She asked. "I think he means I should quit the job I least like doing." He replied.

"Didn't we have this conversation as well?" She said. "Yeah, it seems like everyone is telling me to take it easy. Do I really look like I'm that tired or exhausted?" He asked. Mia strokes Jeff's cheek, "Maybe he's just concerned about you, it's not normal for someone like you to be having two jobs." She said. "Someone like me? What does that even mean?" He asked. "You're Jeff Sage, New York's best neurosurgeon and Columbia's best success story." Mia announced and they both laugh.
