Sitting on his computer chair, experimenting on the chords, and noting what might work with the original melody, Alex thoughtfully hummed the lyrics as he tried to add some notes to their song. He found a good tune to add and he took the pencil that was tucked behind his ear and scribbled down the chords that he was about to add. He practiced to make sure he would be able to memorize the melody with the added changes.

Ring…ring….ring…ring…

His strumming messed up. He angrily groaned and threw the pencil at the wall. Getting up from his seat, he stomped out of his room cursing about how he swears to kill his old man if he continues this. He skipped five steps and marched towards the ringing phone.

He grabbed it and pulled the chord. The ringing stopped and he sighed with satisfaction. But then… his cell phone rang in his pocket.

“Hell.” He dug in his pocket and answered the phone. “What the hell, you fu---“

“Alex?” The voice in the other line made him stop. He blinked and tried to calm himself, “Uh… sorry about that Raysa.” He hit himself for yelling at his girlfriend.

“Are you alright?” she asked worriedly.

“I’m fine. Just didn’t expect you to call,” he said softening up a bit. It had been two days since his father’s call, and ever since then, the phone has been ringing nonstop.

“…” He knew Raysa was thinking of a way to ask him about him yelling on the phone. And he knew pretty darn well that he’ll have to manipulate the conversation to change the topic without being too obvious.

“I was working on the song just now,” he said.

“Oh, I was working on the lyrics too. I actually called to ask you about which sounds better,” she said. Alex sighed as she went on about the lyrics she was editing. He luckily dodged a questioning from her. Her cheerful voice calmed him as she sang the lyrics to him, asking him which sounds better. He headed back to his room as he listened to her voice.

“So… which do you think is better?” she asked.

“You,” he grinned knowing that her cheeks were already starting to color.

“Be serious Alex,” she muttered.

He chuckled, “I am.”

“You’re not.”

“Why can’t you come here?” he said.

A giggle escaped her and the sound of it lightened his mood even more. “Ray’s already sulking about me spending a whole night and day there. Don’t make him hate you even more.”

“Fine,” he grinned as he entered his room. The thought of Raymond Faye sulking in the corner was amusing to Alex. Raymond always had this don’t-mess-with-me aura. But whenever he was concerned with his baby sister, he would turn less intimidating and become more of a child unwilling to share what he has.

“So, should I go now so you could continue with the song?” she asked.

“Nah… talk to me while I’m working,” he said softly.

“What do you want me to say?” she mused.

“Anything,” he said as he placed his guitar on his lap…
