The school was filled with excitement, everyone busy talking about the event that will occur later that day. They made bets on who will win, bets on who will suck the most and become the school's laughing stock, and who they want to see perform the most. A lot of them were thrilled to hear their friends preparing for their number, getting as ready as they could so as not to humiliate themselves.
In the middle of it all, there was one group who seemed to be discussing the same matter but in a different perspective. A much more wicked thinking as they layed out their plans. They knew this was the perfect opprtunity to bring down the one person whom they've hated since arriving here, and one of them stood in the group, hesitant about the plan. They've always had the spotlight of adoration, that was until Alex broke their hearts, and treated them like annoying pests. They never forgave him for that, but the boy couldn't care less. Their opinion never mattered more to him than his unattentive parents. They knew of no way to get back at him since they found their fellow companions in distress. The other members of the group were friends with their fallen sisters, but the hesitant one has always just followed them around since she had no one else to go to. Her name was Susan Philips listened uncomfortably to the plans they had for the talent show later that day.
Her mind registered every cruel word they said and every little haughty snicker and snort they gave as they enjoyed talking garbage about some unknowing, innocent girl who never actually did them any harm and honestly captured the heart of the one her so called peer weren't able to even reach. She remembered her clear assessment of her, the way she told her her good points without sarcasm or venom in her voice. She recalled of the way she spoke about the people she surrounded herself with. And it made her think, made her doubt. She once again looked at the faces of these girl who are engaging in some stupid and pathetic plot to ruin someone who's innocent and kind. Did she really belong here? But if she didn't, then where?
"Sweetheart," Kayla said sharply as she tried to apply makeup on the girl who was to perform last, "I cannot do your damn makeup with you moving restlessly away from the effing brush."
"I don't need to wear makeup!" the girl protested. She had never liked the damn things that made your lips feel all sticky and wet, made your skin itch irritatingly, and made your eyes sting just for the sake of beauty. "I'm pretty enough without it!"
"You'll look like an ugly ghost," Kayla frowned as she ordered Hana to make Raysa stay still. "Hana, you traitor!"
"Come on Raysa, it'll make you look absolutely breath-taking," she said.
"But I would like to perform on stage comfortably. If I'm unable to even rub my eye due to the makeup I'll feel stiff and restricted," she complained as Hana held her still. She could have easily escaped them both, but that would require hurting them. Raysa had a very strict policy of not hurting dear friends. But after they apply paint on her face, she wouldn't think they're so "dear" anymore.
"If you don't hold still, I won't be responsible for what becomes of your eye," she warning, an eyeliner slowly drawing closer to Raysa's widening eyes. She grudgingly obeyed as they started working their so called magic, with Hana doing her hair.
Although she was against the whole thing, she couldn't help but appreciate the fluid motion of Hana's fingers, the elegant way she worked with her now shoulder-length hair. Just a while ago, she had just come back to this place to be reunited with Alex, her hair short and whispy. She liked it, the easy-to-manage hairstyle. But she was growing it long now because she knew that secretly, Alex preferred her hair long as it had been when they were young.
Raysa hated to admit it, but she was also quite impressed by the precise and gentle way Kayla was able to handle such delicate work. She could imagine herself in front of a mirror, warily trying to apply some color to her face. She'd end up breaking the damn things before she could get it close to her skin.
