“I cannot believe you,” Alex muttered as he ran his hands through his hair in frustration. He stood up sharply, eyes darting towards the doors. Behind them he could hear faint footsteps, which were getting louder and louder by each passing second. He prayed that it wasn’t Darwin. If it was, he knew he only had one spot to hide in. He glanced at the couch.

“Mr. Raven, your son is –“ Angela said, panting in exhaustion. She saw Alex and her eyes widened. “How… But… You…”

“Hello Angela,” Alex said, thankful that it was her and not the cruddy cousin.

“Alex,” she still couldn’t quite find her ability to complete a sentence. She held out a hand for a minute to compose herself. “I see, your son has made it to your office without my help,” she said calmly. She brushed a stray strand of her hair and gave her grinning boss a curt nod, “I shall excuse myself then, sir.”

She turned on her heels and closed the door behind her.

Alex let out a sigh of relief and then quickly strode towards the door. He poked his head out, checking the halls before locking it.

“I am NOT helping Darwin with anything, nor do I agree to be in his company or I might kill him,” Alex told his father.

“You can’t stay in my office forever boy. And the moment you leave here, he’ll find you sooner or later,” Marcus said as he rummaged through some files.

“And why is that?” Alex asked, eyes narrowing into slits.

“Because, he’s already fully aware of your presence here in this building. The main reason he got out of his room was to sniff around here, hoping to find you. We all know how much he prefers your company, Alex. He said you’re always so quiet and equally tough and challenging,” Marcus laughed. “I wouldn’t even doubt it if he was on his way here right now.”

Alex paled, cursed and ran to the door, unlocking it and fleeing towards the empty halls, “If he catches me, you’re dead! Both him and you!” he yelled.

Marcus laughed, “I knew bringing him here would be fun.”

Alex whipped past some businessmen and knocked down one of them. He skidded to a halt, about to apologize to the poor elderly man he barreled into accidentally. But he glanced cautiously towards the other halls. When he was sure there was no sign of Darwin, he bent down and helped the old man up on his feet. “I’m sorry about that,” he said, picking up the man’s papers.

“Oh, well I’d be lying if I said it’s alright now, wouldn’t I?” he said. “But do be careful son, and try not to run like all hell is chasing after you,” he laughed, straightening.

“If only you knew,” Alex muttered.

“What was that?” the old man asked.

“Nothing,” Alex shifted from left to right. “Um, I’ve got to go now.”

“Sure sure boy, I’m quite alright now,” the old man said smiling at him. Alex felt bad about running him down like that, though silly it was, he placed the last piece of gum he had on the man’s palm and then took off.

“Raysa, where’s Alex exactly?” Naomi asked.

Raysa pulled down the headset and turned to her, “What was that?”

Naomi repeated her question. Raysa gave her a half smile, “He’s at his father’s company right now.” She wrote some notes and practiced with her boyfriend’s guitar.
