The battlefield erupted with light. There were spells everywhere. You and Harry were running away from Voldemort, who was chasing after you like a lion chases its prey. Harry never lost sight of you, still holding out his hand to merely touch yours as the pillars came tumbling down beside him. Voldemort was furious; there was no need to see his face. He was going in, closer and closer. You ran for it, next to Harry, knowing that if you didn't, you would certainly die, again.
"You fools!" Voldemort yelled, his voice thick with unearthly rage. "AVADA KEDAVRA!"
You dodged the spell as Harry shot another spell at Voldemort. The breath from your lungs kept on escaping; it was hardly able to stay in your body long enough for you to feel like you were breathing.
"Go! Run!" Harry yelled, pointing to a route from the hall that pointed towards the forest. "Go! I'll kill him!"
You hesitated. What if you leave and he dies? What if he won't be able to kill Voldemort? What if Voldemort is able to win after all? You pursed your lips, but he gave you a reassuring look before flicking the roof down behind him, the stones falling into a pile of smoke. "Go, Y/n, please, I'll see you later."
You finally agreed, knowing that when Harry gave you that look, he meant it. He looked at you one more time, his eyes softening as you reached your hand for his one last time before turning towards the forest.
Voldemort, coming out of the stones, yelled in frustration as Harry yelled a witty remark at him. Even at the most troubling times, during the war, Harry still had to prove that he was sarcastic and full of wit.
You held your hands on your knees, letting the heavenly oxygen reach into your lungs and bloodstream. It all seemed like such a whirl. You are back, here. On the ground. On the earthly ground. Surrounded by the forbidden forest, now filled with the most horrid memories you've ever had.
There were eyes watching you from afar.
Your heart jumped. "Not again," you mumbled, drawing your wand and pointing at the set of eyes following your every move.
Your mother came out of the trees' shadows and stepped into the muddled moonlight. Her eyes seemed dark, no light reflecting in them. She stood there, yards away from you, looking at you with the most heart-wrenching eyes. Like a puppy who was given up by their owner, knowing that it would never have that home again, the little pup would wonder what it did wrong to deserve such abandonment.
"Look," you started, not wanting to look into those eyes anymore, "I'm sorry for what happened with my father, but I.. I need to go back to my friends."
"I'm sorry too." She rubbed her snotty nose on her sleeve. "I never meant for your life to be like this. I wanted us to be a family, I didn't know it was going to be so painful trying to keep us together."
You stayed silent, still looking at the ground.
"I want you to know that I would have loved you," she said, and this took you by surprise. "I don't know you, I hardly know anything other than your name or your looks. But, your loyalty to your friends is something I am very proud of, and I hope you are proud of it too."
"You were very loyal to my father, as well," you replied.
"Yeah," she sighed, closing her mouth. "Goodbye, Y/n."
"Where are you going?"
"I'm not sure," she answered earnestly. She looked around, her eyes still with that blank and milky stare. "I don't have a home anymore, nor do I want to go there. I did terrible things, I want to be somewhere and someone else for a while. Forget you ever met me, you didn't know who I was once. Keep it that way." She looked at you once more, and this time, you dared yourself to look her in the eyes again. She was going mental. But, you couldn't really blame her, she just lost her husband, the only family she had, as far as you know.
