Guilt was eating you alive. You wanted to go back to your mother, to have someone else with you as you are traveling through the dark forest. She left you. But then, you also understood her position. She wanted to get you a healthy father; she had no clue what her life was actually going to be.
But she never made the effort to find you. Never went back to see you grow up. You were alone. Abandoned. Lonely. Grieving the death of your parents and the relationships that you never got to have. The fact that your parents were roaming around the Earth at the same time as you, they were alive, breathing. Not six feet under the ground. They were living life with each other. You bet you never crossed their mind.
"I just..." You felt yourself whisper out loud, trying to make sense of what you were feeling. You felt like a balloon heading towards a needle, ready to pop. All these emotions bubbling and rising towards the surface made you feel so nauseous that you had to rest beside a tree for just a few moments.
A twig snapped.
Your heart fell. You gripped your wand again, fearing that maybe the conversation you had with your mother was heard throughout the forest and someone was out to get you. Someone was going to grab you. Someone was going to kill you. A soft squeal escaped you as you shielded yourself from the figure that came out of the bushes.
"Oh, it's just you, Fred," you exhaled, feeling your heart slow down from its beating.
Fred stared at you. His eyes have a milky hue. He looked through you, like he was fixed on the tree right behind you instead of you.
"Fred? Are you okay? Where's Ron? Where's Hermione?"
"Help me," Fred whispered, his chest rising and falling. He sank to the ground, his knees hit the twigs first, his chest never bending as his tears streamed down his face. "It... it won't stop."
You bent towards Fred. "Fred, Fred. What's going on? What won't stop?"
His ears turned red as he looked at you, and the milky hue in his eyes went away. Tears started flowing down harder and harder. "The voices, they're telling me I should have died. I almost died. I should have died. It won't stop!"
"Oh my days," you whispered, covering your mouth as you stared in horror at Fred. "I... I did this. I'm so sorry, Fred, I didn't know-"
"Make it stop, please." He was now sobbing, the red hair above his ears significantly shorter than the rest of his head. You looked at his fingers, noticing the small hair strands under his fingernails.
"I... I don't..." You started, overwhelmed with the different spells your mind conjured up. Would a memory charm work? Will it make him forget everything? Will anything work? Is there a cure?
"Y/n," he begged, his hand gripping the end of your sleeve. "Please... make it stop. Kill me."
You forcefully removed your arm from his grasp. "No, stop it, Fred. I'm not going to kill you. I will... I will find a way. Hermione must know something."
Fred was sobbing harder now, the blue veins popping on his face. Horrified, you grabbed your wand and aimed it at him, feeling an immense weight of guilt on your shoulders to see how much your friend is suffering because of a decision you made.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, knowing that he couldn't hear you from his own mind's torment and his sobs. "Stupefy."
He fell to the ground, his body eerily still. He looked asleep. You knelt down beside him, moving the hair out of his face.
"Bloody hell, Fred!" Ron yelled, moving a branch away from his face so aggressively that it snapped and struck the ground. Hermione followed close behind him, her gasp escaping her lungs as she saw Fred lying on the ground, motionless.
