Harry was sitting on the railing, hunched over, staring at nothingness. It was all a blur. Everything was white. There was no one here with him. Is this what happens after death? He would have liked for there to be Sirius waiting for him. Or maybe his dad. Or his mom. Anyone, really. It all feels alone. He's alone. No one else is waiting for him.
You didn't have to make a sound. He turned his head, as if he knew you were there.
His eyes rose up to his forehead, getting up from the white-still ground. He ran to you, holding you like he was scared of losing you. He could touch you. He felt your shocked breath against his ear. He was sure that you could feel his heartbeat banging against his chest, and you felt it; it was amplifying yours.
"I thought... I thought I would never see you again," you whispered to him, not knowing that you were crying. You held him at arm's length, analyzing his face. "I didn't know... that you were..."
"I should've told you." He murmurs. "Before. Everything. Before all this happened, before I went to that forest. But, I felt like if I said it out loud, it would make it real. And I couldn't tell you, because I knew that meant that I would have to leave you behind. And if I had to walk away from you again, I knew that I wouldn't have done-"
You cut him off. You cupped his face, rubbing your thumb along his stubbled chin. He was caught off guard, and he stuttered for a second before staying silent. Then, you looked at his lips and gave him a kiss. He closed his eyes and kissed you back, his tears touching the tears on your face also.
"You didn't leave me," you told him, giving him a soft smile. "I would have followed you everywhere."
Harry smiled back, still keeping his hands wrapped around your back.
"What is this place?" Harry asked, looking around.
You shrugged. "I thought you would know."
Harry looked around again but then snapped back to look at you. "Wait, how are you here?"
You closed your mouth, looking away from him.
He waited patiently. Until he had to say what was in his mind. "You're not real. This isn't real. I'm dead. This is what happens before... before nothing else."
"I'm real," you told him, still not meeting his eyes. "I saw you die, Harry, and I couldn't just watch you. I had to."
"You used the necklace?"
You shook your head.
"Then how did? You died?"
You nodded. "I ran towards you and I pointed the wand at him."
"At Voldemort?"
You chuckled at his surprised expression. "Yeah, he killed you, Harry. What was I supposed to do? Run the other way?"
"But you used the necklace, right?"
"I didn't, no. Fred was dying, and I couldn't do that to Ron or Fred. I had to save him, Harry."
"But, then, what's going to happen to you? Or me? What is this place?"
Dumbledore materialized from the fog and stepped towards you both. He was wearing an all white cloak, matching the beard and his surroundings. He nodded twice, towards you and Harry, as if acknowledging you both down the halls at Hogwarts.
"I can assure you both that I had no intention to harm you in your journeys." He started, raising a hand to stop you before you interrupted him with a million questions. "The necklace, I know. I'm sorry, I did not mean for it to hurt you."
