"No, don't go too far!" Fred ordered, pulling you and Ron back near him and George. "The castle is full of them. It's best to stay close."
Ron nodded, securing his wand in front of him. "We don't know where Percy went."
"Yeah, we figured," George exhaled. "The bloke left running when Tonks flew in the air... Probably scared him bad."
"Still, he shouldn't have left like that," You countered. "He could have told us."
George shrugged. "No matter now, what's the next step?"
Ron, Fred, and George faced you, expecting you to have a well-thought-out plan on everything that must occur following Tonks' death. Just as you imagined, you were as stumped as the three of them. With no clue where Harry and Hermione are, the smell of evil and death everywhere, having a plan seemed to be ridiculous. Wouldn't it make matters worse? Disappointment will surely be the outcome of all of it.
"Let's help as much as we can until we see either of them," Ron stated, rubbing the end of his nose on his dirt-stricken sleeve. "We need to find Percy. I am getting worried."
"Any idea where he could have gone?" You asked, following the three of them up the stairs.
Fred and George shook their heads, their eyes alert everywhere. Having been back at Hogwarts after a long while, how destructive it has gotten truly broke their hearts. They understood that their life would change after not completing all of their years at Hogwarts, but they never would have thought that coming back would lead them to see the remains of what used to be their school. At least they had each other.
"He usually is by himself anyways," George answered, clearing his throat. "It has been a while since I was that close to him."
"Yeah, I forgot what his voice sounded like." Fred chuckled at his joke, trying to make it seem light-hearted. But the shadow that passed through the gingers' faces told a different story. Fred's eyes lost the spark that would go hand in hand with his smile; he knew that the fact his brother wasn't that close to him did break his heart just a little more than it already was.
You sneaked past a corridor with the rest of the brothers, occasionally looking behind you for any sign of Harry, Hermione, and George. You couldn't look ahead of you in time before your face smacked right into the back of George's arm.
"Ow," you whispered, caressing your injured nose. Moving to the side, you looked past the shoulders of the twins to see a struggling Percy trying to keep the death eaters away from him. Percy knocked out spells from the top of his head, grunting from the efforts.
Ron rolled up his sleeve and started throwing spells at the death eater. Percy looked to his side, and his eyes widened. He had not expected to see his brothers there; he thought he was able to escape from them. They didn't need him anyway; how did they notice his absence?
"What... what are...?" He started, but Fred and George instructed him not to lose focus.
From the hallway, you saw a figure advancing from the descending staircase, aiming straight at the group you were in. You tugged at George's sleeve, who immediately took action and started defending himself. The death eater's mask shifted, their snarl evident in their mouth.
With the wave of their cloak, the death eater wasted no time in throwing spells back at George. Fred saw this and joined as well; his eyebrows furrowed with concentration as his upper body swerved to miss the direction of the counterspells. George's head snapped continuously to the death eater and his twin brother, oscillating between where to focus.
Blocked by the bodies of the twins, you were protected from the view of the death eater ahead. With this shield, your mind could not help but go towards the person you were worried about the most: Harry. Was he alright? Did he need help? Is Hermione okay? Where are they now? Tormenting yourself with these thoughts, you felt the urge to vomit. Even with nothing occupying the shelter of your stomach, this need to spill everything inside your physical cavity was overwhelming. Your head was swimming in an ocean full of worries, and you were desperate to get out.
