It's been two weeks since my "death" and nothing has been the same since. Kayla has acted differently, well I can't blame her for that one though. She was kidnapped, her mother died, came back to life and then now she has to deal with the stress of always watching her back because a flying monkey or snow monsters could jump out at any moment!
Needless to say, I am worried for her. I tried to talk to her about what happened one day and she completely shut down. I asked Archie to make a "surprised" visit and try and talk to her but when he did arrive, she refused to talk to him and went ballistic smashing and breaking things yelling that it's her life and if she didn't want to talk, she didn't have to.
That was a scary night.
Anyways, Archie hasn't come near the house since and well, a flying vase almost took his head off. Snow has come by a bit to check up on her and see how things are going. Being the Evil Queens daughter and all, Kayla likes Snow a lot. She feels safe and comfortable when around her so Snow coming by is a nice treat. She just has the motherly touch.
Emma and Killian have come a few times, since of Emma's little heart failure she's been on watch for the past two weeks. It seems like Killian is glued to her, they are attached at the hip, and not in a good way. I can see that Emma is feeling a little to close on a leash, like chocking close, so I know by coming here, she gets a little more space.
A knock on the door interrupts me from my thoughts as I get up from my position on the couch to answer it. My heels click against the cool wooden boards as my arms swing beside me.
I open the door to be caught in total anger. My mother standing there smiling at me in black dress pants and a black blazer. Her smile was the same as I remembered it from two weeks ago, cold and deadly. Crinkles circled her eyes and her hair waved down just past her shoulders. Her posture was strong and powerful, like she could do anything, and she could.
"You" I hiss.
"Yes dear" she smiles.
I lunge forward to grab her only to be met by purple smoke. I turn around looking all over the front lawn till a voice interrupts the silence.
"Over here" she mocks. I whip around to see her standing by the stairs.
I march into the house, anger filling me up.
"YOU!" I scream running towards her. Purple smoke fills my vision as I scream out in frustration.
"Up here" I hear her chilling voice.
I look up to see the railing gone and Kayla dangling over the edge, her feet barely on the landing. "I'll let her go if you give me what I want" she smiles.
"Anything" I beg her. "You wanted grandchildren, don't kill the only one you have."
Her face turns pale and it turns from the devilishly cold smile into a dark vicious like scowl. And just like that in a blink of an eye, she let go and Kayla fell from the staircase.
I jump out of bed, a cold sweat lining my forehead. I breath heavily and look around the cold room. Kayla sleeps soundlessly beside me, her insisting she sleep with me every night. I see her chest rise slowly up and down, a small grin on her face. My breathing calms as I see her peacefully beside me.
I lie back down again, my fingers running through her long black hair. "I will always protect" I whisper, "even against the darkest of magic" and just like that, I drifted off to sleep again.
~.~
I lean my head against Robin's chest and look straight ahead into nothing.
"I'm scared Robin" I whisper.
