Sometimes life takes you by surprise. Like when you find out your pregnant, or that job you really wanted you got. But sometimes life takes you by surprise when you least expect it, the last thing you would think of happens.
And that is exactly what happened.
I clutched my morning coffee to my chest like a life line, well, coffee was my life line in the morning. It's bitter sweet taste woke me up and kept me going till I got into the office where I would have my second cup and finally wake out of my sleepy haze.
Kayla comes down the stairs and positions herself beside me on the couch.
"I think it's time we talk" she says staring at me, her body on the edge of the couch.
I lean over and put the coffee on the table in front of me and sit up staring at her. "Okay" I say suspiciously.
"Before Cora took me to the mansion, you and I got in a massive fight. When we got back it was like the fight never happened but it did. I want you to understand that it hurt me when you told me we could have a lesson and then ran off with Robin. That, really, really hurt me" she says looking straight into my eyes.
It was like I was talking to a 30 year old colleague. The words she was using and the way she used them made her seem much older, much more mature. It was like I wasn't talking to my daughter but I was, I was talking to my 14 year old daughter.
I stare at her and grab her hands placing them in mine. I give her hands a little squeeze before beginning my apology. "Kayla, you know I love you right? And you know I would never try to hurt you, but on that day three weeks ago I did, and I am truly sorry. I promised to do a lesson with you but tossed you aside when Robin came along. I am so sorry Kayla for what I did. I will do whatever it takes to make it up to you" I say looking at her.
"I forgive you" she smiles pulling me into a hug. I clutch her close to me smiling to myself as I feel my daughters embrace.
She pulls away from me stares at me, looking like she was bracing herself for something big. "I have another thing to say."
"You can tell me anything" I smile at her.
"Something happened when I was gone. You and Henry don't talk, you and Robin have been closer then ever and he's been hanging around a lot more. Two things have been on my mind since I got back, one due to curiosity and other due to being observant" she breathes out.
"I having feeling I'm not going to like either" my smile faltering from my face.
"What happened between you and Henry?" she asks.
I sigh knowing that I would have to tell her one day or another. "When you left, or were taken, I was very mad. Madder then I ever felt since I was in Storybrooke. I blamed it all on one person and hurt them with magic."
"You killed them?" She gasped.
"Oh no, but I did hurt the person quite badly. Henry was quite mad at me for hurting this person."
"Who was this person?" Kayla asked. I sighed at looked up at her. "Who is this person mom?"
"Sheila" I sigh. "I blamed Sheila for everything."
Kayla pulled her hands from mine but stopped staring at them, it was like she was remembering something, thinking hard on a memory that she couldn't quite fathom, I knew the feeling.
"I don't trust her" she says placing her hands back in mine. "Something happened in the mansion with but I just can't remember."
I stare at her shocked, not believing the words I was hearing. Was I correct? Was Sheila working with Cora?
