When You Remember

Chapter 33- Kayla

I woke up stretching with a yawn. I look over at Jessica fast asleep right beside me. Her tanned skin and dark frizzy hair was sprawled across the pillow and a slight snore escaped her lips. I giggle and lie down again staring up at the plain white ceiling. I look at every small little dent or dot up there, connecting them to form some weird shape.

Jessica turns beside me, now facing away from me. I look as her body moves and decide to get up and text Henry. He said he was taking Sheila out for dinner and might pull the will you marry me card. I'm not sure how that's going to play out with mom since she has some grudge against Sheila but hey, I'll let everything unfold how it's supposed to.

I grab my phone from its charging point on the floor and slide my finger across the screen to unlock it. The bright light blinds me a little so I turn down the brightness a little till its bearable. I open up iMessage and click on Henry's name sending him a message

Me: Soooooooo, how'd it go last night?

I click the power button and slide back into bed letting the warm blankets fall on my body once more. I open my phone again and start to play Cow Evolution while I wait for a reply from Henry or for Jessica to wake up.

Henry's name pops up at the top of my screen. I click on it opening up iMessage again to read his message.

Henry: Didnt ask. I was too nervous and wanted moms approval first

Me: Too bad I liked her

Henry: Yah me too

I power off my phone again when Jessica starts to stir. She rolls over so she's facing me, her wild hair going everywhere.

"How bad is it?" She asks.

"Looks like you just had rough sex" I say climbing out of bed.

She groans sitting up. She pulls the blanket off her body and step into the fuzzy carpet. She walks over to her desk and grabs the slippers sitting underneath and quickly slip them on. She grabs a robe from the back of her door and wraps it around her small frame turning to me. I grab my sweater from my bag and slip it over my head.

"Ready" I smile at her.

She nods the sleepiness still having some effect. She walks down stairs me in tow as we reach the main level.

"Morning Dad" Jessica says as she goes and puts a little container in the Tassimo machine.

"Morning" Jafar says not looking up from his newspaper.

"Coffee?" She asks me.

"No thank you, more of a tea before bed kind of person" she nods and press the black button on the machine and watches as black liquid trickles into her cup.

Being here so many times before, I open the freezer and pull out two Eggo waffles and pop them in the toaster setting it on medium.

"So what time are you leaving today?" Jessica asks me.

"Uh probably some time around eleven, my mom will be out of bed by then" I say just as the waffles pop.

"And Robin too" Jessica mutters with a sly smile.

I punch her in the arm as she giggles away grabbing her now steaming cup of coffee. I grab two plates and put the waffles on them handing one to Jessica. She grabs the forks and knives as I grab the syrup and we head back upstairs to her room to start our How To Get Away With Murder marathon on her computer.

I plunk myself on her bed as she plops down beside me. We each place the plate of food on our laps and she grabs her laptop clicking on Netflix. After around three episodes, we were finally Netflixed out and decided to get dressed and head down to Brianna's house to see if she wanted to get together before I leave.
