it goes on like this a while longer. zayn's unusual behavior, weird working hours, and nonchalant attitude. it was like he didn't care about anything anymore, like he always had something on his mind that was making it impossible to focus on anything else. liam didn't know what to make of it anymore. at first he figured it was stress, but now he thinks it's something more... something bad. something he wouldn't dare let cross his mind.

but the more he thought about it, the more it started to make sense in his mind.

the constant 'meetings' at weird times of the day, coming home late, damn near avoiding being around the family, his unconcerned demeanor, protecting his phone like it was his life line, everything. he's hiding something, liam can sense it. he wasn't ditzy, he picked up on zayn's weird, out of routine behavior. he just never said anything, trying to brush it off as work issues. and if liam were being honest with himself, he was afraid of finding out. he didn't want to believe what the voices in the back of his mind screamed at him, the red flags that were clear as day.

zayn wouldn't do that. there's no way. he was too much of a family man who always put his family first, and always thought about their happiness and their safety. he loved them with every fiber of his being. he wouldn't be selfish or even foolish enough to jeopardize what he had. would he? the question floated inside of liam's mind tauntingly. every time he would tell himself that zayn isn't that kind of person, the question would just chip away at his conviction. make him question if he really knew his husband as well as he thought he did.

perhaps, it was just his self-esteem making him doubt everything. most of the time, liam didn't feel like he was the best partner for zayn, or the best parent for their kids. he didn't make the best decisions as an authoritative figure, and he knew it frustrated zayn. he knew a lot of the things he did frustrated the man. but he never believed he was putting a wedge between the two of them. couples were bound to be frustrated or disagree on things no matter what the circumstance. but maybe it was different now.

maybe zayn just didn't want to put up with him any longer...

or maybe he was overthinking this too much. maybe nothing was wrong and it was all in his paranoid head. but it weighed on his mind heavy, it couldn't be helped. it was the insecurities taking control, feeding into his delusions.

liam sighs shakily, taking a calming breath as he parks the car in the driveway. he'd just gotten back from running some errands that he'd held off on before. but he figured he might as well do them before he has a chance to procrastinate some more. the boys were dropped off at school almost three hours prior. liam is a little surprised when he sees zayn's car still in the drive way. he had expected him to be gone by now, off to yet another meeting or work thing in the studio or whatever else. liam turns off and grabs the small amount of bags he had out of the trunk before heading inside.

"zayn?" liam calls softly. he gets no answer right away, so he hangs his keys on the key holders near the door and walks into the kitchen to sit the bags on the counter. liam walks over to the side door, sliding it open to check for zayn, maybe he stepped out to smoke, but he's not on the patio. the house may be big, there's only a few places zayn mainly hangs around at, the patio, their room, or the living room and kitchen. sometimes when he had the energy or needed to burn off stress, he set foot in the gym and do a small work out. but it was rare. the gym mainly remained untouched.

liam walks up to the room. perhaps he was asleep, catching up on all the rest he seemed to have lost in the course of weeks. honestly, liam would have preferred it. at least it meant he was home and that he wouldn't be going anywhere. and maybe he could join him, sleep peacefully next to his husband and cherish the closeness that he was longing for. liam walks towards the room door. it was slightly afar already as he approaches.
