Hospital Scene
Wangji sat outside the emergency room, his eyes swollen from crying. Now, however, he was silent—completely drained. Mrs. Kim, Yuan, Yanli, Jin Ling, and Zixuan stood beside him.
Since Zixuan was a government minister, there were several bodyguards stationed around them. The entire hospital had been placed under heavy security to prevent outsiders from entering. Outside the building, a storm of reporters, media vans, and police sirens filled the air. The police were doing their best to control the chaos.
Yibo was in another room undergoing surgery on his injured leg. He had already lost consciousness.
Wangji sat in unspoken agony, numb and still, until he suddenly heard a voice—one he never wanted to hear again.
Kuan rushed in, with Jiang Cheng and Jingyi following behind him.
Kuan quickly stepped forward, breathless. "Lan Zhan!! I heard the news and—I couldn’t hold myself back. Are you… are you okay, brother?"
Wangji didn’t look up. His voice was cold. "I am no one’s brother. And my name is Wangji. Not Lan Zhan."
Kuan stepped closer, pain written on his face. "Brother… please don’t be angry. I—I was really worried when I saw the news. I was terrified something happened to you."
But seeing his younger brother reject him so emotionlessly made Kuan’s heart shatter. He knew he deserved it—after what he did, after refusing to believe his only younger brother, after losing his trust… After becoming someone Wangji now loathed.
Kuan whispered, voice trembling, "I was really worried about you…"
Wangji clenched his fist tightly, frustration and pain brewing in silence. Then he turned to Mrs. Kim without sparing Kuan a glance. "I want to be alone. Send everyone away. I don’t want to see anyone’s face."
Zixuan gently stepped forward and took Jiang Cheng, Yanli, and Kuan aside. "Let him be. Come on, let him have some space."
Yanli, teary-eyed, cried softly,"But my brother is inside—"
Zixuan reassured her. "He’s in surgery. Come back when it’s over. You all need rest."
Kuan looked at his brother, hoping—desperately—for a single glance. But Wangji refused to look at him even once.
Kuan lowered his head, overwhelmed with regret, and quietly walked away, sitting at a far distance—watching, but no longer allowed close.
Wangji remained seated, empty and silent. Mrs. Kim and Yuan tried to comfort him softly:
"Everything will be okay…"
But Wangji didn’t respond. His world was bleeding inside that operating room.
Outside the Hospital~~~~
Outside the hospital, chaos reigned. Reporters swarmed like vultures, throwing rapid-fire questions toward the police, who struggled to control the crowd.
Suddenly, a loud sound ripped through the air—
Thump. Thump. Thump.
A helicopter.
The sound grew louder, vibrating through the ground, forcing everyone to look up.
A massive, luxurious, high-end helicopter was descending—far too low, far too close. There was no designated landing area; the entire open space was flooded with press, photographers, media vans, and onlookers.
Panic broke out immediately.
Realizing the helicopter seemed determined to land right over them, the reporters began screaming and scrambling in terror, scattering in every direction. Within seconds, a wide clearing formed as everyone desperately tried to get out of the way.
