Chapter 34

The next morning...

   Max hasn't woken up yet after the demon blood extraction, but was removing well while stable. Emily came into the room to check on, and was a little disappointed that he is not awake yet.

"Looks like he is still asleep." She thought as she checked his vitals.

"At least she's in good health." She says in relief.

"How is he?" Vaggie asked as she came in with a box of cookies, and a get well card for Max.

"Oh, Hey Vaggie. Didn't hear you come in. He's doing well, but hasn't woken up ever since we got the demon blood out of him." Emily explains.

"I'm sure he will wake up. Everyone, especially Charlie, is worried about him." Vaggie says as she strokes Max's hair.

"How's the hotel construction coming along?" Emily asked.

"Doing well. We already finished the foundation, and the first floor. A lot of individuals are volunteering to help rebuild it." Vaggie spoke with excitement.

"That's great. I'm happy for you." Emily spoke with a smile.

"Thanks. At this rate, the hotel will be done tomorrow." Vaggie added.

"Great. I'm going to check on some other tasks that I need to do. I'll give you some alone time with him." Emily says as she leaves the room.

   Vaggie grabs a chair and sits next to the bed as she calmly waits for Max to wake up eventually.

Meanwhile in Hell...

   Charlie and her friends are making great progress on rebuilding her hotel with huge improvements and halfway done already.

"Making great progress. We might get the hotel done tomorrow." Charlie says with excitement.

"Yeah, I bet Max will enjoy his new room that we planned to build for him." Renamon says she looks through the plans.

"I wish I could go see him though." She added.

"We don't want heaven to know that you are a mortal as well since we just have the privilege of letting Max stay here as an exception. I hope you can understand that." Charlie explains.

"I bet they already knew, but you're right. We can't take the risk." Renamon spoke.

"I heard you asked IMP to help you go after Royce. The horrible person that killed Max's biological mother, and sent him here?" Charlie asked out of curiosity.

"Yes. And to save an innocent person that could be his next victim before it's too late. And to be honest, I don't think Royce is no ordinary human. He claims to be a human-demon hybrid. He has powers to overpower me when I try to see what sick individual he is. I saw horrible things in his house that I can't imagine. He killed many innocent people that tried to persecute for his crimes, and Heather is next if I don't do something to save her." Renamon explains.

"I'm sure she will be alright, just don't go into a fight you can't win." Charlie says with concern.

"I have to for the sake of innocent people in Lubbock County. What could an evil human-demon hybrid do? He could go after Max again. Royce is unpredictable, he killed like 24 people in his house and left their corpses to rot in a hidden tomb." Renamon spoke with fear.

"Well if you are planning to return to Earth. I have something for you since you are Max's big sister after all." Charlie says as she went to get something.

"What's that?" Renamon asked as she followed her to her royal tent.

Charlie opens a wooden box, and shows her a magical necklace inside.

"This is a magical Amyist necklace. This necklace gives you the ability to travel between Hell, and Earth anytime." Charlie says as she puts it around her neck.

"It opens a doorway between here and Earth just like that?" Renamon asked while surprised.

"Yep. All you have to do is just rub the stone, and a portal will open." Charlie explains.

"Sounds easy." Renamon says.

"Hey Rena! Are you ready to head to Earth with us?" Moxxie asked.

"Ready!" Renamon says with confidence.

"Why can't I come to help you guys kill this prick that mentally messed up Max?" Loona asked.

"It's not safe for you to come on this one because we don't know if this target is just a normal human since Renamon warned us that he could be dangerous. Besides, Max looks up to you, so you should stay here." Blitzo explains.

"Fine, since I do actually care for him." Loona says.

"Be careful Rena. Promise you come back safe and sound." Charlie spoke.

"Don't worry. I'll be back soon." Renamon spoke as she left with IMP through the portal.

Somewhere in downtown Lubbock Texas...

"Where are we?" Blitzo asked.

"Downtown of Lubbock." Renamon answers.

"So where does the target live?" Millie asked.

"He lives on the south side of town. It's a pretty long walk from here I'm afraid since my car is far away from here." Renamon spoke.

"I wish the van wasn't in the shop. For fuck sake." Blitzo spoke with frustration.

"It won't be that bad. We never explored Texas much before." Moxxie says.

"I know the way. Follow me. We can stop for some snacks later on before we make it to the destination." Renamon spoke.

Meanwhile in Heaven...

   Max groaned a little as he started to wake up from his deep sleep. He started to look around and noticed Vaggie next to him while reading a magazine.

"Vaggie?" He asked as he sat up.

"Max! Thank goodness you are finally awake." Vaggie says as she hugs him tightly.

"Where are we?" He asked.

"Heaven. You've been asleep for almost two days straight after saving you from turning into an uncontrollable royal demon by extracting the demon blood out of your body." Vaggie explains.

"Oh. I can't remember anything after hanging with Loona and her friends at the Tumbleweed Ranch.

"Well, it's best if you don't. And the good news is Adam won't be a bother anymore, and Sera decided to give us a chance to let us raise you as our own son." Vaggie says with a smile.

"Really? I can stay with you and Charlie forever?" Max asked happily.

"That's right sweetie. You are our son now." Vaggie says as she strokes his hair.

"Can we go home? I do want to see Charlie and the others as well?" He asked.

"Not yet since we are still rebuilding our hotel. It's safe that you stay here till tomorrow, and don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." She says.

"Ok." He says.
