"When did you start wearing an anklet? You never used to wear it daily before."

Upon hearing Maansi, the smile on Meera's face faded, but she tried to smile again and replied,

"This... this is actually something I bought on my birthday. I went to the temple and saw it at a nearby shop. I found it very beautiful, so I bought it for myself. Why? Is it not beautiful? Does it not suit me?"

Maansi responded with a smile,

"No, no, not at all! It actually looks very beautiful on your ankle. Gold anklets really suit you, Meera!"

After that, both of them fell silent for a minute, looking at the sky. Maansi then said,

"Meera, I think it's time for you to get married."

Hearing this, Meera looked at her mausi in confusion and replied,

"Huh? What?"

Maansi continued, looking directly at Meera,

"Yes, get married. It is your mother's last wish. We both know how hard she is trying to make you agree to marriage. I want my sister to see her daughter living a happy life with someone who loves her unconditionally. At least for a few days, she deserves that."

Hearing this, Meera's eyes filled with tears. To hide them, she bowed her head while listening to Maansi. Maansi continued, saying,

"And please move on from that incident. Meera, that family doesn't even deserve a girl like you. Just because of that broken engagement, you are planning to stay single? Please don't."

Upon hearing this, Meera looked at Maansi and said,

"No, Mausi, it's not like that. I don't want to marry this early; I need some time."

Maansi smiled and responded,

"If you like someone, don't hesitate to tell me. I will talk to Vidya Di; I know how to get her to agree."

Meera looked away, silently wiped her tears, and said,

"No, Mausi, I don't like anyone. I just can't marry anyone right now."

Hearing this, Maansi frowned and said, holding Meera's hand,

"Why, what happened, Meera? Is there any problem? Why are you crying? You know that even after getting discharged, she is trying to make you agree to marry someone before she dies. Doesn't that concern you? At least for her, you should consider marrying. It's not too soon; it's the perfect age for marriage."

Hearing this, Meera smiled sadly and replied,

"No, Maansi, I can't marry anyone. Please don't force me."

Maansi continued,

"Look, Meera, if you stay unmarried, you'll also have to endure taunts like I do."

Meera responded,

"It's not your fault, Mausi...."

Maansi replied with a sad smile,

"Yes, it's not my fault. That day, I was sitting in the mandap when the groom ran away with another girl. But still, people talked badly about me, saying I must have done something wrong for him to leave. After that day, every proposal I received was rejected because people thought I had some issue or fault. Eventually, I stopped my family from looking for a man for me. It began to feel like I was insulting myself by doing that.
