Meera was extremely tired, but whenever she tried to close her eyes, visions of the fight, the blood, and Laksh's hand covered in Surya's blood haunted her like a nightmare. After tossing and turning for what felt like hours, she sat up in bed, trying to remember everything that had happened earlier. The image that haunted her the most was Laksh's hand stained with Surya's blood. Each time it crossed her mind, her heart raced, and she felt a heaviness settle in her chest.
After several attempts to forget it all, and unable to shake the memory, she decided to watch something on TV since sleep was elusive. However, as she entered the hall, she heard someone ringing the doorbell. Looking at the clock, she wondered who could be at the door in the middle of the night. When the doorbell rang again a few minutes later, she hesitantly approached the door and peeked through the keyhole.
Seeing a familiar figure outside, she hurriedly opened the door. Vedansh stood there, looking as if he had returned from a long, dark journey. His hair was dishevelled, and he clutched his coat tightly. He was still wearing the white shirt stained with blood, and his eyes were red-rimmed. When he looked at her, his gaze was filled with despair, as if she were his last hope. Seeing him in such a fragile state made her heart ache.
Looking at him, she said, "Ved sir, you... Here at this hour? Is Mr. Rathore okay? Is he regaining consciousness?"
Hearing her question, his eyes filled with tears. Seeing this, she added, "Okay... calm down and come inside first."
At her words, he stepped inside and sat down on the sofa as she closed the door behind them. Noticing his sad demeanour, she joined him and asked calmly, though her heart was racing as if she had just run a marathon.
"What happened, sir? Is everything okay? How is Mr. Rathore?"
"Suddenly, he hugged her tightly, and the tears he had been holding back began to flow."
Because of his sudden action, Meera was in shock, but Vedansh was not aware of her feelings. He was in so much pain that he didn't notice her expression of discomfort. When Meera heard his soft sobbing and felt his shaking body, she relaxed herself and started to rub his back soothingly, saying calming words to him. After some time, when Meera felt he had become more normal, she gently pulled him away and asked,
"What happened, Ved sir? Why are you this sad?"
Hearing her, Vedansh lowered his head and replied,
"Actually, my brother's operation has been completed. After shifting him to the ICU, the doctor said that if he doesn't regain consciousness in eight hours, there is a high chance he could go into a coma."
Meera was stunned by this news, looking at Vedansh with wide eyes. Seeing her reaction, he continued,
"I don't know what to do. It's already been three hours, and he is still unconscious."
Hearing him, Meera quickly blinked her eyes and controlled her emotions.
"It's okay, Ved sir. Calm down. There are still four hours left; don't overthink it. Just relax, okay? You haven't eaten anything, Ved sir. I'll do something for you."
Hearing her, Vedansh said, "No, no, Meera ji, I am not in the mood to eat. I... I am not hungry."
Upon hearing him, she got up from the sofa and said, "You have to eat something, Ved sir. Don't behave like a child. You didn't eat anything at the party either. Think about what your brother will say when he regains consciousness and finds out that you were unconscious because you were on an empty stomach."
