A soft glow shimmered ahead–faint, golden light bleeding through the slats of a grate. Aeron's hushed voice broke the silence, barely more than a breath. " Look. There's light coming from that room. "

Lyam and Starfania crawled closer, peering through the vent. Below them stretched the control room, alive with activity. Technicians moved between stations, dials blinking, conversations echoing beneath them. Their eyes locked, a silent exchange passing between Starfania and Lyam. This was it.

" It's incredible how our scientist managed to develop a toxin that will eliminate the dragons. I bet Cesars is thrilled about all of this especially since the disappearance of his daughter. " a voice below, filled with smug satisfaction. Starfania's heart stopped for a moment when she heard them talking about her father. She saw how much pain he was in with the last dream she had of him but hearing the guards talk about it created a whole new light.

She clenched her fists, struggling to contain her emotions. Every word felt like a dagger, piercing through the fragile hope she had left.

"We need to get closer," Lyam whispered, urgency dripping from his tone. Aeron nodded, pulling them back into a shadowed corner of the vent. With careful movements, they shifted to the other side, their hearts racing. A flicker of caution pressed on Starfania's mind. What if they were caught? What if they couldn't get back? They had to know more. The voices below grew clearer. Another technician spoke, "Once we deploy the toxin, the dragons won't stand a chance. The cleanup will be easy."

The matter-of-factness shocked Starfania. It was one thing to talk about dragons as threats, but to hear them reduce magnificent creatures to mere nuisances was heartbreaking.

"They think they're so clever," Lyam muttered. "But they have no idea what they'll unleash."

The weight of his words hung heavy in the air, thickening the atmosphere around them. Starfania couldn't shake the feeling that this moment was pivotal. As they edged closer, she felt a swell of determination. No longer just a girl hiding, she was the Dragon Savior seeking to protect Avalon. With each second that passed, her resolve hardened. A powerful voice abruptly cut through the chatter below. " Hey! Who said you guys could take a break? We have less than an hour before the Eternal Sun is in position! Get your lazy ass–back to work! Now! "

The commanding figure stormed off, leaving only the two Volcanic Order guards behind in the control room. Without hesitation, Starfania unlatched the vent and dropped down her armor making a loud thud, and Lyam couldn't utter a single word. Though she could feel his disapproving gaze burning into her, Starfania stood by her choice. The two guards turned immediately to see an unknown figure in silver and blue armor. Their hands instinctively twitched toward their weapons, but they froze as she calmly stepped forward, unshaken. Her helmet still obscured her face. She had a plan. She just needs a second. With a smirk, she broke the tension. " Bad timing, huh? "

One of the guards snapped, " You're not allowed to be in here! "

Locking eyes with them though the reflective sheen of her advisor, Starfania said cooly. " Well there's been a change of plan. I'm afraid I can't allow you to release that poison. "

For a heartbeat, the air stood still–until both soldiers burst into laughter. Caught off guard by their reaction, Starfania blinked in surprise. They clearly didn't see her as a threat. That could work to her advantage. While their laughter lingered, she strolled over to the control panel near the vent, where Aeron and Lyam still observed her from above. They whispered urgently, " What are you doing? "

Starfania gestured to the panel, replying only with a glance and a subtle nod. Sliding into the control chair with practiced ease, she started turning the system offline. Her fingers flew across the controls. Shields. Targeting mechanism. Countdown timers. All laid bare. In that moment, a memory surfaced–his father's voice guiding her through the machinery back in VulcanFire. One of the many lessons he taught her when training her to become the leader of them. Now here she was on the opposite side of this war using every trick in the books he ever taught her. It's ironic her first ever mission would be stopping VulcanFire from releasing this poison on the dragons.
