Summer was approaching with speed and vacation was just around the corner. There was only two weeks left until the one and a half month rest would begin. How much rest she would get was questionable though, especially since her father seemed to have no plans on returning home anytime soon. Plus, being a high school senior was tough, and many of the teachers would probably give her a lot of homework. Luckily was Ahri there to keep her company and the girl was definitely going to spend a lot of time with the kid.
The two of them had never before spent a summer together as their father, Jinkyung and Ahri would fly over to Europe and Italy around that time of the year. It was also a place where Jiyoo spent all her summer vacation when she was younger. The house located at the island of sicily was one that her father had bought several years ago as a birthday gift to her mother. But ever since Jiyoo's mother passed away did the girl no longer go there. So many memories were connected to that place and it was only painful to think about them.
The thought of the incoming summer gave her a boost of happiness. A feeling that bubbled within and caused a smile to spread on her lips, and that despite the chaos that was taking place inside the cafeteria. Two rowdy boys had started a fight that were escalating into a bigger one, a few other students had joined in and the room was now more of an arena with crowds cheering them on. Jiyoo, not wanting to risk anything, stayed out of it. She was keeping herself distanced from the ongoing fight.
Daehyun panicked the second he entered the cafeteria and took notice of the cheering crowd and the fighting students. The boy feared that Jiyoo had joined in, it would be so typical her to do such a thing. The fact that she'd done so previous times worried him, especially since she nearly got expelled. However, a sigh rolled off his tongue when seeing that none of the students were Jiyoo. Maybe she was actually starting to behave. Daehyun would be mighty surprised if so was the case.
Stepping back he let his gaze wander, the boy was curious to whether Jiyoo was even there or not. To celebrate was too early. An even greater relief, if possible, swept over him when spotting the girl. She wasn't even paying attention to the battle going on in the middle of the room, no, instead was she staring down at the cell phone in her hand. He came to the conclusion, when seeing the girl's finger dance across the screen, that she was texting someone. The expression on Jiyoo's face told him nothing, he had never before witnessed the look she showed that moment. Therefore was it impossible for Daehyun to read her.
The loudness bouncing off the walls came to an abrupt end when a couple of teachers darted inside the cafeteria. But that was only for a mere second as students around them began to scream and shout. The tension was rising in the air, and it was making him uneasy. The few seconds that his eyes had been resting on the huge crowd had been enough for Jiyoo to escape. She was nowhere in sight when his gaze moved back to the place she'd stood. The reason to why the girl had left the area was because of her father. The old man had precisely sent Jiyoo a text telling her that he was coming home in a few days.
The said girl had mixed feelings to the new information. She was of course happy that Ahri would be able to see her father and mother again. Though, it also meant that the two of them would have to move back to the house again. An ordeal that Jiyoo wasn't too pleased over. If only she had enough money for an apartment. Unfortunately was so not the case, and the girl wouldn't have any other choice but to sleep at the house she previously called home.
Jiyoo's worst nightmare greeted her as she headed for the rooftop and some fresh air. She felt the air in her lungs dissapear and she was unable to move, it was like she had frozen to the ground whilst the boy advanced forward. The smirk on his face sent shivers down her spine. There were not many she was scared for, though, Kris was definitely included in that small group of people. He seemed so indifferent about everything and everyone, it was like human life had no value to him. "Not happy to see me?" he cornered the girl between the wall and himself and that all the whilst she nervously looked away, "y -you shouldn't be here." the girl's eyes, on instinct, shut close when his breath caressed her skin. He was too close. "I know, but this is so much fun, don't you think?" no, it wasn't the slightest fun.
Tears were threatening to spill when she felt his hand connect with her chin, "why, don't you find it fun anymore?" Kris grinned as he ran his thumb along the scar, it was an action that caused the girl to wince. "Maybe I should claim you as mine." his thumb came to rest at her bottom lip whilst speaking, and Jiyoo, even though she was terrified, decided to suck it into her mouth before biting down hard.
Kris withdrew in haste and Jiyoo's eyes snapped wide open when he gave her cheek a hard slap, "I can hurt you so much more if I want to." several teardrops escaped and rolled down, a waterfall of saddened emotions stained her uniform, "what have I ever done to you?" she wouldn't even look at him, that's how much the girl despised the other boy. Kris was nothing more than a fucking douchebag. "The fact that my dear little Tao likes you is more than enough." he was lying, who in his right state of mind would be interested in someone like Jiyoo?
"You should leave, now." Daehyun's voice did all of a sudden sound and she freaked out, the girl didn't want to look pathetic in front of him, or anyone else for that matter. Kris frowned upon the arrival of the younger boy, "you again, can't you see that we're talking." he stepped back and faced the blonde-haired student. "Leave before I truly rearrange your face." Daehyun, despite being shorter, wasn't the slightest afraid. He had more than enough confidence in the skills he possessed to be scared.
Kris laughed, amused, "you should be careful of who you're challenging. I'm capable of things you can never imagine." the blonde boy had a hard time believing that, Daehyun had seen quite a lot in his life and some wannabe gangster wasn't exactly much of a threat. "Don't underestimate me." even the most innocent person could have a devil living within.
The tension in the air rose to a new high, and it was just a matter of time before a full fledged fight would break out. For Kris to dissapear was one wish that Jiyoo wanted to come true. He was making everything so much more difficult. The way he would appear out of nowhere frightened the girl and she was constantly terrified that he would hurt her more. The scar, in his eyes, didn't seem to be enough pain. However, a teacher stepped in-between the two before anything could start, something that Kris wasn't too pleased about. "You should watch your back from now on." the two boys glared at each other, and that all the whilst Jiyoo was trying to wipe away her tears. "See you around." Kris winked and she could literally feel her heart freeze, why was it so hard for him to understand that she hated him.
Daehyun headed, once both Kris and the teacher had left, over to Jiyoo. Though, the said girl pushed him away. The only thing she wanted was to get away, to be alone. "Don't touch me." more tears flowed as Jiyoo staggered back, the girl needed fresh air before she freaked out totally. "Leave me be." Daehyun tried to reach out and grab her, but he was too late as she was already heading for the stairs.
Death did almost sound nice as she shoved the rooftop door open. Her life had suddenly become so hard to live. Why couldn't some people understand that she wanted them out of her already troubled life?
Tao had been enjoying the warm May weather when a loud noise caught his attention. Never in his wildest dreams could he have foreseen the sight of a crying Jiyoo. She looked absolutely devastated. "Jiyoo." the girl froze in her position and she stared up on the Chinese boy. She could, despite wanting to be alone, not tell him to leave. "I hate this, I hate my life." to vent out her emotions like that was something she'd never done before. Not to anyone. Tao frowned, it hurt him to see someone he liked in so much pain. Therefore did he, without even thinking twice, pull her into his embrace. Jiyoo continued to sob, and that even though her face was pressed into the soft fabric of Tao's blazer. With one arm around her waist and the other at her shoulder did he comfort the older girl. Playing tough wasn't that easy. Tao if anyone knew that. He had, at one point in his life, believed that he was invincible. Though that changed drastically when his whole world fell apart. The boy had matured a lot ever since the death of Yi.
"Jiyoo." his voice was oh so soft, and his heart squeezed together when she craned her neck to look up at him. The girl's eyes were red and puffy whilst her cheeks were filled with dried tears. Saddened ones that he wanted to wipe away. Jiyoo's heart fluttered when feeling the younger boy's thumb at her cheek, the action was so very gentle that she barely noticed when he let it glide along her bottom lip. In fact, she only took notice of what was going on when he lowered his head and pressed their lips together in a kiss. The feelings rushing through her was so overwhelming that she had to grip onto Tao.
Maybe Kris hadn't been lying.
What the two of them didn't know was that Daehyun had seen everything through the small glass window located next to the door. His heart was, compared to Tao's, not the slightest pleased. Nothing else but pure and raw pain spread within. Daehyun felt stupid for falling for someone that he shouldn't have.
