A/N: I did change up the mood from the end of the last chapter a little bit, I just felt like it allowed for more drama/characterization and I ended up getting a little carried away 😭 happy reading

Miles wasn't sure what to do next. He watched you from behind the mask, your quiet demeanor out of place compared to how you'd used to be around him. It was like you still hadn't really forgiven him for what he'd done. For lying.
He didn't blame you. It must've hurt, being lied to. Pretending to be someone you didn't know at all. You'd told him things, about yourself, about your brother, expecting no one else to know at all.
"Miles."
He snapped out of it, blinking at you. "Yeah?"
"See that vent over there?" You pointed towards a small opening in the side of the building, barely guarded. The Brooklyn military base Quentin Beck wanted the two of you to break into seemed to be completely impenetrable. There must've been hundreds of soldiers surrounding the premises, and probably even more inside. There was no fucking way two self-proclaimed teenage vigilantes were going to pull this suicide mission off.
Maybe if you got caught, you'd be able to send the police over to Beck and get him thrown in jail too.
Would it be worth it?
Miles quietly decided he'd rather get shot by a soldier than have his Mami visit him in jail.
"Might be our only option." He hummed, zeroing his vision in on the vent. He could swing over there and pry it open. If the two of you timed it perfectly, maybe even threw something as a distraction, you'd make it.
"You really think we'll fit in there?" You asked amusedly, raising a brow underneath your mask.
Miles scoffed. "I don't see any other options."
The kiss really hadn't solved anything, had it? It was still tense between the two of you.
You swallowed.
"Lead the way then." You said softly. Miles seemed to notice your shift in tone. He glanced towards you, shoulders tensing.
"Y/N..."
"Not now." You said in a gravelly tone, clearing your throat. "Later. This is more important."
He watched you for a moment longer, like he wanted to say something, before he just sighed and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small ball-shaped grenade. He rolled it between his fingers before gesturing towards you. "This'll do it. Once I throw it, I'm guessing we'll have about four seconds to scramble to the vent and pry it open before the soldiers start looking towards us."
You nodded, shuffling towards him as he stretched his arm out. It settled around your waist, and you felt your heart jump into your throat.
"Ready?" he asked softly, stretching his arm out in an attempt to ready himself to throw.
"Yeah." You watched as he flung the grenade into a small dumpster, right as a pair of soldiers walked past. Metal went flying, and Miles immediately tightened his grip around you and swung his way towards the vent.
Four.
The soldiers clamored, ducking as trash continued to fly. They scrambled to their feet, hands on their guns as they pointed it towards the dumpster.
Three.
You and Miles slammed into the wall and he let out a grunt, holding you tight as you began to pry at the vent with your dagger.
