Chapter 92: Farewell, Navarone

This whole damn plan was a mistake. Busting into the vault was easy. The Marines might as well have lured us in. As soon as we got there, we were attacked. While Luffy, Robin, and I fought the soldiers, Usopp unlocked the vault to reveal that it was empty. The whole thing was just a trap.

Luckily, we managed to escape due to the Marines' incompetence. Although it would be more accurate to say it was because of one particular Marine we had previously met in prison, and Usopp pretended was a member of our crew, calling him Condoriano.

Afterwards, we ran into the doctor who pretended to be our hostage and her father, the repairman. They helped guide us to a safe way out of the base and into the mountains, where we ran into Nami. Everyone debated for a moment before deciding that our gold must be in Commander Johnathan's office. Nami and Luffy left on the waver to go steal it back, leaving the rest of us to return to the ship and get it ready to set sail.

Once we reached the bay, Usopp called out, "Hey, Chopper! Kaori! Sanji!"

All three of them ran up to the railing, looking excited and relieved. Chopper waved to us, "You're back!"

"Is everyone alright?" Kaori called out.

Before I could answer, Sanji shouted in glee, "Oh, Robin! I'm so glad you're safe!"

Usopp scowled at the cook, "The rest of us are here, too, ya know!"

Sanji's expression turned from glee to concern as he looked at us, "Wait, where's Nami?"

Robin answered him, "The Captain and Miss Navigator went to retrieve the gold."

Kaori's brow furrowed, confused, "Wait, you guys didn't get it from the vault?"

I crossed my arms as I frowned, "The vault was a trap. The gold wasn't there."

Usopp grunted as he turned to look at Robin and me, "We can catch each other up on what happened later. Right now, we've gotta get the Merry out of this dock and into the bay!"

"Right," We all agreed. While Usopp, Robin, and I boarded the ship, Kaori, Chopper, and Sanji began the preparations to sail.

As I reached the railing, I spotted my girlfriend hurrying to the back deck to man the lateen sail. I headed the opposite way to the front deck to haul up the anchor. We managed to get the Merry moving, even with the Marine warship disguise frame weighing us down. It was still before dawn as we went out into the bay. I could only hope that the darkness helped the disguise look passable.

Usopp climbed up to the Crow's Nest and used a hooded lanturn as a spotlight to try to spot Nami and Luffy. I kept an eye out as well, but I heard the waver approaching before I saw them. Usopp waved and called out, "It's them! Hey! Luffy, Nami! Over here!"

They pulled right up alongside the Merry as everyone rushed over. Sanji got there first and practically threw himself over the railing to reach down and help them climb aboard, "Nami! You're back! Are you alright?"

Usopp threw a rope over the railing and called down, "Nami! Tie that around the neck of the waver!"

"Right!" She answered with a shout as she caught the rope.

The long-nosed man turned to me with a determined grin, "You're up, Zoro."

I rolled my eyes as I walked over to take the rope from him. Luffy stretched his arm up and vaulted himself over the railing. He clutched a large bag in his other hand, grinning wildly, "Check it out! We got our gold back! Took it right out from under Fortress Guy's nose."
