The next few days were pretty tense, at least for me. Zoro seemed to be the only other crewmate who was still completely distrustful of Robin. Sanji and Luffy were completely sold. Nami was literally bought. Usopp and Chopper were anxious but ultimately seemed alright with her being aboard.
Despite my protests, Robin bunked in the girls' room with Nami and me. She slept on the lounge chair, forgoing the hammock she was offered. I had a few restless nights, too wary she may turn on us at any moment.
Robin made many small gestures to try and win us all over with varying levels of success. For me, it was more irritating and unsettling than anything. She offered to help me pick out clothes or get dressed. She would walk behind me up the stairs and in front of me down the stairs as if I would fall.
One morning, during breakfast, I reached for a fork and she materialised a hand to pick one up for me. I curled my hand into a fist and slammed it on the table, startling several of my crewmates in the process, "Will you cut that shit out?!"
Robin seemed unfazed by my outburst, calmly drinking her coffee, "My apologies. Did I do something wrong?"
Her cool attitude rubbed me the wrong way and I stood up, shoving the bench seat back a bit with a loud scraping sound, "I don't need your pity! Stop treating me like a wounded puppy!" I turned on my heel and stormed out of the cabin, slamming the door behind me with a scowl on my face.
Immediately, I was frustrated with myself for blowing up and throwing a tantrum, but I shook off the guilt as I stormed to the front deck with the training equipment, "She was asking for it, treating me like I'm helpless. What bullshit!"
Reaching the exercise area, I started stretching and warming up before grabbing a resistance band. I positioned it behind my back, one end in each hand, and pulled forward, mimicking the way Robin had grappled me the other day.
The sound of footsteps up the stairs caught my ear. I scowled, not bothering to address whoever it was as I continued my strength exercise. The footsteps approached me and stopped just outside the training area. Nami spoke with a taunting tone, "You really shouldn't storm off without your food. You're lucky I grabbed it before Luffy did."
I sighed, relaxing my grip on the resistance band, "Thanks, Nami," I set down the band and walked over to her as she handed me my plate.
"You know, she may be dangerous, but she's not that bad," She said sweetly.
I scoffed, "You're just saying that because she gave you gold," I walked over to the railing and leaned against it as I began to eat my breakfast.
Nami huffed indignantly, "Now that's just rude."
"But true," I retorted with a smirk.
She let out another huff, "I'm choosing to ignore that comment," She walked over to lean against the railing beside me, "Seriously, though. I know you're just being cautious, but what would she have to gain by attacking us now? She'd have to take out all seven of us at once and then be forced to pilot this caravel on her own in the Grand Line. It wouldn't be a good move on her part and she's already shown she's smarter than that."
I frowned at that, holding my fork above my plate as my brow furrowed, "Doesn't mean I have to put up with her coddling me like I'm a helpless newborn."
"I know," Nami put her hand on my shoulder, giving me a reassuring squeeze, "And you made your point on that very clear," She paused and I felt her head turn to look past me, "Oh, hey! There's an island up ahead!"
I hummed in acknowledgement as I returned to my breakfast. The sound of the cabin door swinging open on the other side of the ship rang out and Luffy's curious laughter soon followed, "An island?! Where?!"
