Chapter 88: Battle on the Bridge

We raced through the halls and up stairwell after stairwell. Zoro was guiding me, making sure I stayed steady as we made tight turns or when a set of stairs ended sooner than I expected.

Usopp called out in distress from behind us, "Hey! Wait a sec! Don't let Zoro lead! He'll get us lost!"

My boyfriend grimaced as he shouted back, "Oh, would you just shut up!" Luffy just laughed at the exchange as we continued to run.

After a few more winding turns, my brow furrowed, "We should have reached the exit by now. Oh, jeez. Don't tell me. Ugh, Zoro..."

Usopp must have come to the same conclusion as me, "I told you! Now we're lost!"

Sanji yelled in agreement, "Yeah! Where are we?!"

"How do you get lost going to the front door? That's almost impossible!" Usopp shouted in frustration.

Zoro snapped back at them, "I said shut up!"

"Come on, you guys!" Luffy hollered before he barreled past me and took the lead, "Keep running!"

I shook my head as I smiled, "I don't think Luffy leading the way is a good plan either!"

My boyfriend smirked, "Heh, are you volunteering?"

I laughed, "No way!"

Sanji jeered at Zoro, "She'd probably do a better job than you, Mosshead."

"I thought I told you to shut up, Curlybrow," Zoro shot back.

Usopp started panting as he fell behind, "I-I... I don't think I can keep up! I'm beat! No, wait! Don't leave me!"

I turned my ear towards him and shouted in worry, "Usopp! Hurry! I can sense the Marines behind you!" He let out a yelp and shot past me, crying out in panic.

I sensed Zoro's brow furrow as he looked over his shoulder, "Are there really Marines on our tail?"

My lip curled into a smirk as I held back a laugh, "Pft! No."

"Let's find the Going Merry and get out of here!" Luffy shouted as we tore through the halls.

I felt a tension in the air and grunted, "Oh no," I gripped Zoro's hand tighter as I took a slow breath. He squeezed my hand back as I opened my eyes. The world around me blurred as my mantra opened up to listen to the whole base. The voices of dozens of Marines were closing in on our location from all sides.

I grimaced as I closed my eyes, "I may have spoken too soon."

Luffy came to a stop in front of us, making Usopp gasp, "What? What is it?" He started whipping his head around as he looked around us and yelped, "Ah! Marines! Over there, too! And they're behind us! We're trapped like rats, you guys!"

Luffy chuckled before he spoke in a confident tone, "It's about time things got interesting," I raised an eyebrow at him curiously as he continued, "I wanna see if Fortress Guy was right. He said escape was impossible and that it would take a miracle."

"It might," Sanji responded pessimistically, "The odds aren't in our favour, that's for sure. There's a thousand troops stationed here.

The corner of my lip twitched into a smirk as I let go of Zoro's hand and got into a fighting stance, "True, but we've done some impossible things in the past few days."

Usopp was still panicking, "You find this interesting? Why, Luffy?"

The rubber man sounded absolutely giddy, "Because escape is supposed to be impossible!"
