I clutched the katana in my grasp with a shaky grip. This felt wrong. I am a Korudosuton Brawler. I do not wield any kind of weapon, let alone a sword with this much malice.
I racked my brain. Zoro had warned me once that one of his swords was cursed, "This is it, isn't it? The Kitetsu blade."
The aura around the blade flared as if responding to my acknowledgement.
"Sandai Kitetsu... You want blood, don't you?"
The blade felt like it was humming in my grasp. I felt a pull on my arm and drew the blade an inch out of its sheath. The metal almost hissed against the leather. My brow furrowed at the sensation.
"Problem is, you aren't too picky about whose blood you get, are you? You'd happily take mine if I wield you wrong. You'd take Zoro's too, given the chance, I bet."
The aura of the exposed blade felt heavier, darker. It was growing angrier. It was trying to make me angrier. My grip on the hilt tightened to the point my fingers hurt.
"I won't give you the chance. I won't draw you."
The blade was livid. If I were weaker, I would have been compelled by the curse to unsheathe the blade. Who knows what kind of damage this katana would do in my inexperienced hands? As it was, I could not close the small part of the blade that had already been drawn.
I closed my eyes and shook my head to snap out of my trance. Adjusting my mantra back to my regular radius left me feeling a bit disoriented. I focused back on the field and saw Zoro was still lying on his back on the ground. I was startled to sense that Sanji was lying out a few feet away from him. My heart pounded in my chest, "Shit, Sanji's down now, too?"
Robin's horrified voice reached me as I came out of my stupor, "Such a cruel way to win."
Luffy pleaded weakly, "Get up, Zoro! C'mon, Sanji!"
Itomizu's voice rang out, making my grip on Sandai's hilt tremble, "Both balls are still in play, but it looks like Team Strawhat is down for the count!"
The crowd behind us started heckling us.
"Piece of cake! Nyahaha!"
"They put on a good show, but this was always gonna be how it ended."
"I can't tell if they're still alive."
"Looks like we win again!"
Itomizu continued his commentary, "In fact, you might say they're... 'Groggy'! Now all that's left is to stuff the Ball Man in his coffin, I mean, goal, and it'll be two wins in a row for the Foxy Pirates! It just goes to show, you can't keep a good monster down!"
My jaw clenched as I focused on the field. I whispered under my breath as I gripped the cursed katana tightly, "Come on, bär. Get up."
There was an uncomfortably long silence from both men before I heard my boyfriend rasp in pain and anger, "Hey, cook... let's work... together for ten seconds."
Sanji's response was equally as strained, but thankfully agreeable, "Okay, fine... but no longer."
Relieved, I let out a breath. Itomizu was prattling on overhead, "The second match of our Davy Back Fight has come to a dramatic conclusion. It's another win for our Groggy Monsters! And while the Strawhats put up a good fight, they were simply no match for our reigning champs. So, win two wins in a row for the Foxy Pirates, and one adorable new doctor on the crew, we must wonder who Captain Foxy will choose next!"
"Feh-feh-feh-feh!" Foxy cackled near us. I scowled at him as he spoke coyly, "Yes, we must wonder, shouldn't we? Eh, Blind Brawler?"
I scoffed as I turned my scowl into a sneer, "You're getting a bit ahead of yourself, don'tcha think? The game's not over until someone actually scores."
