While Kaori went to get dressed, I decided to go to the front deck. I figured when she got back, we would sit together and just relax for a bit or maybe catch a nap. As I sat down against the railing, I unhooked my swords from my haramaki and propped them up against my shoulder with my arm hanging lazily around them.
The longer I waited, the more I started to doze off. The sun was warm, and the waves were crashing against the small cape we were anchored on. There was no breeze, leaving the air to feel still and calm. My eyes drifted shut, and my head nodded a bit.
It felt like maybe a minute or two had passed when something disturbed my sleep. I knew immediately it was not my girlfriend. The footsteps were too heavy.
And there were way too many of them.
I did not move as the intruders crept towards me. Part of me wanted to see what their intentions were. The other part of me wanted to make sure I took them by surprise. However, I heard one of them draw a sword and swing at me.
In an instant, I had Kitetsu drawn and blocked the hit. The hilt thrummed in my hand from the impact, but I knew the blade was growling. I glared at the man in front of me. He had a wicked smile on his face as he grunted, "Pity. I was hoping that we could kill you in your sleep."
I was not sure what pissed me off more: that these guys would sink low enough as to try and kill someone in their sleep, or the fact that they thought they could pull that shit on me, "You bastards sure gotta lot of nerve. Who are you?"
He tried to push back on me, but I forced him away. He staggered a couple of steps back before he caught himself. I stood and put my free hand on Yubashiri as I brandished Kitetsu. The cursed blade was eager for blood, just as indignant as I was.
The group of men were all a mismatched group with wild hair, tattoos, and bizarre clothes. The most consistent thing on their outfits was a red star. Most of them wore it in the center of their torso, while others had the stars on their chest or shoulders. It was clear to me that this group was a different pirate crew or an organised gang.
The man who attacked me sneered, "You don't know who we are? Really?! 'Cause we sure know you, Pirate Hunter!" My scowl only deepened as he raised his sword up, "Babies stop crying when they hear our name! A collection of bounty hunters: we are The Franky Family!"
My mind began racing, "Bounty hunters? Shit. Not good."
The man grinned as he took a step forward, "Now, if you don't mind, I think we'll be taking that 60 million bounty you've got on your head. When we're done with you, we'll wait inside that cabin of yours and ambush the rest of your crew when they get back!"
My shoulders relaxed a bit as Yubashiri hissed out of its sheath, "These guys seem like a joke. Telling me their whole plan like that with all the confidence in the world. Thankfully, they don't seem to have a clue that Kaori is inside. It'll be quite the painful surprise for these assholes when she comes out. If I haven't gotten rid of them myself, first."
