Things had finally settled down after the crazy escape from the Marine base. After going for nearly two days without sleep, most of the crew was exhausted and decided to get some much-needed rest. Since Zoro and I both managed to sleep while we were imprisoned, we offered to take the watch.

Zoro stayed out on the main deck, leaning against the railing. He was looking back at the Marine base behind us as it grew further away on the horizon.

Using my mantra, I walked up to stand beside him without saying a word. He took notice and turned his head toward me, but did not say anything.

A small smirk pulled at my lips as I leaned forward to prop my elbows up on the railing. I spoke softly with a coy tone, "Hey."

The swordsman quietly huffed, amused, "Hey, yourself."

My smirk only grew as I rested my chin in my hand, "So... I didn't know you were a biter."

He scoffed and looked back out over the railing, "Come on. You know I didn't have many options to fight off those guards. I didn't have my swords, and they had me in those stupid cuffs. I just kinda... Acted without thinking."

I giggled a bit, "I'm not making fun of you for it," I sensed him turn to look at me again and grinned, "In fact, I was impressed."

He let out a dry laugh, sounding sceptical, "Oh, really?"

I nodded, "Definitely. I'm pretty sure you broke some bones in all that scuffle. That's a pretty powerful bite."

Now he sounded a bit prouder, "Yeah, I guess you've got a point."

I turned my head a bit to angle my ear toward him, "It was quite the intimidation tactic, too. Some of those Marines didn't want to get anywhere near you."

He laughed, almost smug, "Yeah, maybe I should try it more often."

"Yeah, you should," My grin grew, and I bit my lip, "Though you should work on controlling how much power you use."

He sounded puzzled, "Why?"

I turned my head toward him, my smirk never faltering, "'Cause I don't want you to break my shoulder or collarbone."

"What are you...?" He started to ask before his voice cut off. I sensed him turn his whole body to face me. It was hard not to giggle as he almost growled in warning, "Don't start something you can't finish, Kaori."

Now I did laugh, but it came out as a low chuckle, "I'm not," I faced him and placed my hands on his chest. His muscles were tense under my palms as I slowly splayed my fingers out, "I was serious when I said it impressed me."

Zoro grasped my waist, gripping me hard as he held me in place. His voice was strained and low, "Kaori..." I slid my right hand up to cup his jaw, my fingers toying with his earrings. I could feel how hard he was clenching his teeth, but he pressed into my hand and groaned, "You're playing a dangerous game..."

I grinned and tilted my head slightly, "I know, but... it's a game I want to play..."

His grip tightened on my waist. I could feel the twitch in his arm, wanting to pull me closer, but holding back. His chest rumbled under my hand as he growled and pressed his forehead against mine, "You make it... Really hard for me to keep calm."
