I met up with Anne in the morning and was relieved that she was alright now. She looked lovely with her long, black hair that she managed to keep straight all day. I remembered the two water bottles I had packed for her and pulled them out of the side pockets of my backpack. "Here, make sure to drink both of them so you won't get dehydrated again," I said, with a smile on my face. She smirked and took the two bottles, "What would I do without you? Oh yeah, I would probably have a happier life." I took back the water bottles, but she apologized and chugged one down. We were separated from each other for the first two periods of school. I hoped she would be OK throughout those two hours. I continuously looked back at the clock on the wall that my back was always facing. 10 more minutes, I thought. Only ten more. After the bell rang for our nutrition break, the teacher asked to see me. I was worried that he caught me looking back at the clock.
"You seemed very distracted today Mr. Kim," The stern teacher said. I blushed out of embarrassment, and I'm sure the teacher noticed. "Is it maybe because of the incident with Anne-Maria yesterday? You need to get over that," He said, patting my head. I nodded in agreement and exited the class room. Anne was waiting for me with two empty bottles of water. I was proud that she drank both of them, she was probably still very thirsty from yesterday. "Look, I can take care of myself, so don't help me with unnecessary things," She said, recycling the two bottles. We both chuckled and I finally felt that everything was back to normal, and I'm sure she felt the same way to.
At lunch time Anne and I were on our way to the cafeteria when Anne started acting weird again. She grabbed my arm and forced me to stop walking. Today was chicken sandwich day and I was so excited and hungry for it. "What is it Anne? Can you please hurry and tell me so I can go eat," I said, snapping at her and shaking her hand off of my shoulder. She told me to follow her to the auditorium for some reason. I started to get worried as her eyes began to get a little teary. I followed her without another thought and once we sneaked in the auditorium through an open window that was closer to the ground, I asked her what wrong. "Kevin, don't get scared when I faint again," She said, stuttering, "I'm fine okay, just don't tell anyone and don't leave me alone." She looked into my eyes, and something weird started happening, it was almost like her pupils were missing. Anne started to say something else but couldn't get the words out and fainted into my arms. I let out a quiet gasp, and began to get worried. Why couldn't I tell anyone? What was going on? I laid her onto the floor gently and sat next to her. She looked so precious, but she also looked confused. She had soft white skin that wasn't exactly pale, but not exactly tan either, just in between. Her eyelashes were short, but that's what made her beautiful.
I touched her cheek, but quickly pulled my hand back. She was so cold. I looked at her arms and noticed that they had goosebumps. I took off my sweater and placed it over her. It was a breezy day, and it started to look like it was going to rain as I sat there next to Anne. I laid down on my back, hoping she would wake up soon. I heard an approaching class, and knew I had to escape into the little janitors closet that was located next to the bathrooms.
I picked up Anne and carried her into the unlocked closet and closed the door behind me. It was very dark, but I had to keep it that way so no sort of light would seep through the crack between the bottom of the door and the floor. I felt my way around the small space and found a place to sit down. I held Anne in my arms, and wrapped my sweater around her cold body. I thought I could hear her heartbeat, it was so quiet, but that moment was ruined once a bunch of 1st graders came in and sat on the floor in front of the stage that was big enough to have a group of 10 members dance and sing on it. The auditorium got loud in only a matter of five seconds, and Anne's heartbeat seemed to disappear from my ears. I held her closer to me, and her head was resting on my chest. She started to move so I figured she was OK, but I still held onto her. She could tell we were hiding from a lot of people because of the noise, and knowing that teacher's surrounded the door to the janitor's closet all basically all times, we both stayed quiet for 30 minutes. I had no idea what time it was, but I knew that we were going to be late to our next class. We both had history together, so I felt a little better that we could accept the punishment together.
