I looked over to the entrance of the waiting room as Anne's family returned. Her mother was in tears yet again, practically being dragged into the waiting area by Mr. Young. She clearly was in so much pain knowing about her daughter's condition. I felt bad for everyone, everyone who was close to Anne. Tom and Raina were holding hands as they sat and prayed for Anne to wake. The surgery was still going on, and no one knew her condition just yet.
After a few minutes of waiting for news, Jessie rushed through the door. I remembered that she had given me her number at the water park, and I figured she should know about Anne's condition. She didn't stop running until she approached me. She looked faint and I barely caught her as she fell to the floor. She was panting heavily and was out of energy, "Is, is she going to be okay?" She inhaled and exhaled slowly, catching her breath. "I came running when I heard, my mom didn't want me to leave, but I needed to know if Anne was okay myself," She said, taking another breath.
I reassured her that Anne was most likely going to be okay, and that we hadn't heard any news yet. Jessie nodded and took a seat beside me. I really did hope Anne was going to be okay, and I was sort of relieved when a nurse came out to give us news. She looked nervous, "The surgery had some complications, again, we are almost finished." She walked away quickly without answering any pondering questions that Mrs. and Mr. Young had.
It was almost thirty minutes later that the nurse came out once again, "The surgery is almost finished and the surgeons are preparing her wound to be stitched up." And with that, we were left in silence again. We weren't really reassured at all, and I really wanted a different nurse.
After another twenty minutes or so, the nurse came out once again. "The surgery went well and the complication didn't really seem to actually affect anything after all. Sadly, there is no telling when she will exactly wake up, but it shouldn't take longer than a week." Mr. Young was angry now.
"Why do you not know exactly when she will wake up?" He snapped back. I agreed with him, "What kind of nurse is she?" I asked myself. We weren't even able to visit her until 2 hours after surgery. I decided I would go home and Mrs. Young excused me with a "thank you".
"Thank you so much for staying with her today," She said, shaking my hand and messing up my hair. I left, tagging along with Tom and Raina. Raina looked like she was about to pop, and I was wondering if they really needed to leave the hospital. It wasn't polite to ask when her due date was going to be, but I was really curious. I succeeded in keeping my questions inside of my head. Tom held the door open for Raina, Jessie and I. Tom offered Jessie a ride after accepting my request, but she turned him down and took off running in the direction of her house.
I was dropped off at my house and walked through the front door. My mother was still at work and it was only around noon, so she wouldn't be back for a few more hours. I looked at the digital clock on my kitchen counter and walked up the stairs to my room. I was really tired and fell asleep almost instantly. I thanked myself for finally being able to escape reality and sleep.
