When I had heard that Anne was in surgery I was in utter shock. What had happened now? My mind began to think of all of the crazy things that could have caused this. Did she fall into a coma, does she have a brain tumor, does she have cancer anywhere? I was confused, but when her mom had told me what really happened I was really sad and scared.
I wondered throughout the night if I was the one who caused this, maybe I wasn't treating her right. Maybe I made her feel uncomfortable when I had hugged her Saturday night. I couldn't think about my own selfish thoughts and needed to care about her. I told my mom who grew worried after hearing the news. My mom went over the speed limit for the first time in my life as we rushed into the city. We exited the car and rushed into the hospital.
The nurse said that her surgery was still going on and we could wait in the waiting room with her family. My mom took my arm and pushed me into the waiting room outside of the E.R. I looked over to the entire family. The first person I noticed as Raina, who was crying uncontrollably while squeezing Tom's hand. Tom was shaking and I could tell he was really worried as well, but trying to stay strong. To the right of him was Anne's mom, whose eyes were puffy from crying. She looked like she ran out of tears and was resting her head on Mr. Young's broad shoulder. Mr. Young was still crying, and he was holding a tissue and a picture of Anne. Seeing them made me tear up, I really did hope that Anne was going to be okay. My mother led me to sit aside Mrs. Young. She grabbed my hand and we all sat there for an hour or two, waiting for news.
About two hours later, a nurse came out to report the latest news about Anne's surgery. "There was a complication during Anne-Maria's surgery, but the surgeons were able to fix everything and she should recover fine," The nurse said. She had her hands in fists by her side, and she looked awfully nervous. Mrs. Young asked if they could see her and if she would be waking up soon. The nurse said we could see her but she could be asleep for a few days because of the shock she had been through and the complication during the surgery. Everyone calmed down and we were all so lucky that Anne was still with us and not dead.
My mother let me stay and Tom said he would take me back to my house after we were done visiting her. I waved goodbye to my mother who walked rather quickly out of the hospital. I sighed in relief that Anne was alright.
"Why did she do this?" I asked Tom, who I was now sitting next to. He shrugged and said that maybe she was being bullied or just wanted to experiment. Why would she want to experiment, and what would she find out from it. She only received pain from her stupid act.
I followed Tom to the room, but he decided that he couldn't see his younger sister in the condition that she was in, so I went in by myself. She looked pale and lifeless, but peaceful at the same time.
I was mad at myself for not noticing the signs of her wanting to commit suicide. Thinking about just gave me the chills. I pulled up a chair next to the bed and faced her. I couldn't see the cut because she was covered by the bed sheet. That didn't stop me from looking. I moved away the blanket and decided to stop my hands from going further as I saw her stomach. I knew she was wearing nothing but underwear under the ugly hospital gown.
