Another Day (Cont.)

I moped around and waited until I could see the only person who could ever make me happier. It was finally lunch time, and I was happy that I could finally cure my growling stomach ache, and also talk to someone who might be having a better day. "Hey Kevin, I heard you got a 'bad' grade on the Science test today," Anne said, tapping my shoulder as we walked to the cafeteria. I stopped walking and looked straight into her eyes. I could tell she got a little scared by my reaction. "Who told you?" I said, grabbing her shoulders and squeezing them. This was a serious matter and I didn't have time to be joking around. She shimmied her shoulders until my hands slid off and snapped back, "Oh please, I got a C+, how bad can a B grade be?" I felt bad that I had snapped at her, but some place inside of my head kept telling me that she would never understand my problems.

We stepped away from each other and continued on our way to the cafeteria in silence. It was a bit of an awkward walk, especially when my stomach growled and younger students who were passing by giggled. Anne looked at me and giggled herself. I turned my head away and felt my cheeks grow warm. My day was horrible, and I hoped badly that something would change it. Luckily something interesting happened.

After we ate, making some small talk, Anne told me that she needed to use the restroom, so I excused her. As Anne left and Connor approached, I grew angrier. How could Conner get a better grade than me? That never happens, that shouldn't have happened. I scooted to the other side of the table as he took a seat next to me. "Kevin, what's wrong?" Connor asked, trying to be as serious as he could be, but he failed. Connor cracked up beside me and slapped his knees, and because I wasn't already feeling like a failure, he wiped a tear, that I didn't seem to see, from under his eye.

Anne came running back and practically kicked Connor off of the bench, which made me actually laugh. He got up and walked away, rubbing his neck. "Kevin, you won't believe what just happened," she said, catching her breath, "Some girl just invited me to her birthday party, I've never been invited to one before!" I looked at her and was surprised myself. Anne knows everyone's name in the middle school so I was a little worried.

"Do you even know who she is though?" I asked, looking at Anne's beautiful brown eyes. She shook her head and responded, "You're right, I don't know her. But, I'm sure it will be fun!" She chuckled and waved goodbye to me so she could go hang out with her other friend, who I was guessing maybe got invited too.

The thoughts came back to me, my stupid test. Why did Anne have to leave me, I needed her to be by my side during these times. I got up to go to the bathroom, but was stopped by the LAST person I wanted to see. "Kevin, it's so nice to see you outside of class today," Mr. Logan said, leading me to a bench just outside of our courtyard. We both took a seat, and I honestly was not prepared for the upcoming lecture. "So, it must be hard for you today, getting the lowest grade you have ever gotten on a test in my class," He said, gaining my attention once again.

I looked straight at him and I knew my cheeks grew red from embarrassment. "I feel really bad about it too," I said, looking away quickly. "Why do you feel bad? People had failed that test, actually almost everyone did, and you got a B. How is that so bad?" He asked, trying to reassure me. It didn't work, his words had no affect on my emotions. "You don't get it. It's not entirely because of my grade, but because Connor had a better grade than me," I said, stopping myself from venting more of my personal problems to Mr. Logan. He nodded and told me to try harder if I really want a straight A in the class. I nodded, but only grew more flustered.

I had forgotten that I needed to pee, and ended up needing to hold it for another hour before I had the chance to go again. That was the hardest thing I have ever done. I regretted my decision of avoiding Mr. Logan, but at least my mind was off the science test.
