Allie's POV;

I get out of the shower to see several texts from Aaliyah, and a missed call, too. Geez, what could be so important? I call her back and picks up frantically.

"Allie, Shawn's hurt, and I don't know what to do!" I feel my stomach drop. "Okay, stay calm," I say, looking out my window. I feel a weight lower onto my shoulders when I see Aaliyah kneeling next to an unconscious Shawn on the driveway. I quickly hurry over. "He's not waking up, and my mom forgot her phone and my dad isn't answering," she says. I can see the fear in her eyes. She's already panicking, and I can tell she's only minutes away from a panic attack or breakdown.

"Okay. Just calm down. Call 911," I say. Her eyes widen. I look down at Shawn and notice the large cut on his forehead. It left the pavement stained reddish-pink from where it's been bleeding. "He probably needs stitches. Call 911," I repeat. She nods, and about ten minutes later, I hear a siren and an ambulance pulls into the driveway.

"What's your name, sweet heart?" The paramedic asks. Aaliyah just stares at the paramedic with a frightened expression.

"This is Aaliyah. She's Shawn's sister. I'm Allie. I live across the street," I say. The paramedic nods and introduces herself. "My name is Gracie," she says.

I watch as two more paramedics come to stabilize Shawn. They check his vitals, is eyes, and put a brace around his neck. I've seen this been done lots of times. Even if the person's neck isn't hurt, the paramedics won't have time to check until they get to the hospital, so it's just to keep the person safe, and also probably to prevent any further injury if it's already severe. They also start to get the bleeding under control as they put him on a stretcher and load it into the ambulance.

"You two come with me," Gracie says, leading us to the front of the ambulance. The other two paramedics get in the back with Shawn, so there's room for Aaliyah and I to sit next to Gracie. She starts the ambulance and presses a button that makes the sirens start to wail. She backs out of the driveway, and once she leaves our neighborhood, floors the vehicle at full speed, causing us to arrive at the hospital in just about ten minutes.

Gracie leads us inside the hospital to the waiting room. "Can you tell me what happened, Aaliyah?" She asks.

Aaliyah stares at her hands. "I guess her tripped and hit his head. I came downstairs looking for him and found him on the pavement." Gracie nods and scribbles something down in a notepad. "Is he allergic to anything? Any medicine?" She shakes her head. "Not that I know of." Gracie nods and smiles. "Alright, well I'll have a nurse update you as soon as we learn anything," Gracie says. "One more thing. Could I have a phone number to contact your parents?" Aaliyah nods and writes down her father's cell phone number. Gracie smiles reassuringly before leaving.

Aaliyah and I sit in the waiting room of the ER for a good twenty minutes before a nurse comes out and calls for any relatives of Shawn. It gives my mind time to wander and imagine the absolute worst scenarios that could be happening to him. He could be bleeding to death right now, in an operating room, or have a brain bleed that results in him being brain dead, or have a concussion so severe he had memory loss or brain damage, or he could be in a coma.

Allie, stop this. You're overreacting. Shawn will be fine. He's strong, and touch. It will all be okay.

When a nurse finally comes out with news, both Aaliyah and I are relieved. She tells us that Shawn is stable and there hasn't been any permanent damage. He's still unconscious, but once he wakes up, he should be fine. We've also been told that Mr. and Mrs. Mendes are on their way here. In the meantime, Aaliyah and I are taken to his room, where Shawn is asleep. I notice that he has a large bandage over the cut he inflicted, probably to cover up the stitches he got. As I sit next to Aaliyah by the windows at the far side of his room, I can't help but think how cute he is while sleeping. At least he looks peaceful.
