Allie's POV;
I roll over to the sound of my phone and groan, not wanting to get up yet. I reluctantly check the caller ID to see who's calling me this early, and shake my head when I see its Shawn.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL!" He shouts through the phone. I jump, startled by how loud and energetic he is at this hour, and drop my phone on my bed. I pick it up and turn the volume down, yawning before saying thank you.
May 15th; my birthday. I almost forgot, but of course Shawn didn't.
"I'm going to give you the best birthday ever!" He exclaims. I sigh and shake my head again; I'm glad today is a Sunday so I don't have to deal with everyone at school, only Shawn. Just kidding, I obviously love him.
"You're going to love this day," he says. I can hear the mischievous smile in his voice, and my heart skips a beat.
"Shawn, what did you do? I told you I didn't want anyone to make a big deal over my birthday!" I whisper-yell. I don't know if my mom is up yet and I don't want to take her.
"It's a surprise! You'll love it, Allie!" He exclaims, and I flop back down on my bed, blowing my hair out of my face.
"Shawnnn, you know I hate surprises," I whine, sticking out my lower lip even though he can't see me.
"Allieeee, you'll love itttt, I promiseee," Shawn whines back, mocking my voice. I roll my eyes and form an angry pout on my face, ignoring the fact he still can't see me. "Today is your ecstatic eighteen, I have to make it special!" He exclaims.
I raise my eyebrows, "What?"
"Your ecstatic eighteen! Y'know, like a sweet sixteen, but older! You're eighteen today, you're officially an adult! And also older than me." He finishes the part with an obvious pout in his voice, and I chuckle at his strangeness.
"You're so weird," I say, shaking my head.
"But you love me anyway," Shawn chirps. "Come over to my house at 3:00pm, sharp," he says. I run a hand through my hair tiredly and nod. "Okay, I'll be there," I say, and he squeals before hanging up. I didn't even know seventeen year old guys could squeal. Shawn's just full of surprises. Including my mystery 'ecstatic eighteen.' I hope it's not a party, he knows I don't do well with new people.
"Happy Birthday!"
I look up to see my mom, Faith and Kelly grinning down at me. My mother holds a small cake in her hands with the number 18 candle lit. They proceed to sing happy birthday to me before I blow out the candles, Faith scolding me because I didn't make a wish first.
"Alright, time for presents!" My mother cheers, handing me a gift. Faith and Kelly do the same, and I groan.
"Guys, I don't want anything for my birthday," I say, but they all insist I open their presents. I sigh, doing as they wish. My mom got me a cool looking laptop case, and Kelly and Faith got me a Polaroid camera and photo album.
"Now you can put all your memories in here!" Faith and Kelly exclaim excitedly. "Especially you and Shawn," Kelly smirks, wiggling her eyebrows. I scoff and roll my she's, but thank them and pull them all into a group hug. "Thank you guys, I love your presents."
We eat a little bit of the cake and mom leaves to go out somewhere, leaving Faith, Kelly and I alone.
"So, do you know what Shawn has up his sleeve for my birthday?" I ask suspiciously, raising an eyebrow. Faith and Kelly grin at each other before shrugging to me, and I groan again. This is why I hate surprises.
•••
At three o'clock sharp, Faith, Kelly and I arrive at Shawn's house like he told me to. I'm forced to cover my eyes as my friends lead me inside, and when I open my eyes I see Shawn's house is all decorated.
"SURPRISE!"
Shawn, Aaliyah, his parents, and my mother are all here, along with Faith and Kelly. I smile, glad it's not a huge party. Just the eight of us is enough, and I couldn't be more grateful.
"Alright, everyone sit down," Shawn announces once we made small talk for a bit. I look around in confusion, but Faith and Kelly pull me to the couch. Aaliyah and Shawn's parents sit on the love seat and my mother and Aaliyah sit on the floor. Shawn smiles as he lifts his guitar and and stands in front of us.
"Allie, this one is for you."
My heart literally stops. He wrote me a song?!
You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables
Left a small town, never looked back
I was a flight risk, with a fear of fallin'
Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lastsI say, "Can you believe it?"
As we're lyin' on the couch
The moment, I can see it
Yes, yes, I can see it nowDo you remember, we were sittin', there by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing, that's ever been mineI smile, feeling my throat begin to tighten.
Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakesTaking on the world together. I hope we get to do that someday, that would be amazing. I bring my knees to my chest and rest my chin on them as he continues, and by the time he's finished, I'm in tears. I'm his.
"You're mine, and only mine, Allie. Happy birthday," Shawn says with a smile. As soon as he sets his guitar down, I run into his arms and he spins me around. I hear a snap as Kelly snaps a picture of us, printing it and placing it in the photo album.
"Wait, there's one more," Shawn says, handing me a small, wrapped box.
"Shawn! I didn't want anything, and you freaking wrote me a song! I don't want anything else!"
Shawn shakes his head with a smile and gestures for me to open it. I shake my head back as I undo the ribbon and gasp at the silver locket inside.
"Shawn..." I breathe, popping it open. Engraved on one side is our initials,
A + S, and in the other side is a picture of us laying in his backyard, looking at each other expectantly. "It's beautiful," I say, choking back a sob. Shawn grins as he turns me around to clip the locket on me, and once he does I turn around and lock my lips with his. I hear another click of the camera and smile into the kiss."Thank you," I say, pressing or foreheads together. Another click.
"I love you, Allie," Shawn whispers, caressing my cheek. I giggle and hug him tightly.
"I love you, too. This is the best birthday ever."
Shawn smirks. "I told you it would be."
A/N - Yay! Allie is now 18, and Shawn is so incredibly cheesy;) but heeyyyy is that the song I recognize from chapter 17? Aye I think it is! Sorry for the lame title name, I wanted it to be like a sweet sixteen type thing so yeah. But I think might do more than 40 chapters, I keep thinking of ideas! Anyway, thank you all so much for reading! Xoxo - Em😊💙
