Allie's POV;

I follow Hannah around as she gives me a house tour. Just off of the main entrance is an office to my right, which Adam makes very clear is off limits. To the left is a very fancy dining area with dark hardwood floors, red walls, and green curtains. There's a long, cherry oak table and beige cushioned chairs: three on each side and one on each end. In the middle of the table is a candle and above the table is an extravagant chandelier.

Down the hallway between the staircase and the office is a closet and bathroom, and then the back of the house opens up to a living room on my right and the kitchen on my left. Both are painted different shades of brown. A sliding door between the rooms opens onto a large patio with more brown furniture, and beyond that is a huge in-ground pool. There's a little grass area beyond that, and the entire backyard is enclosed in a tall, white fence.

After touring the lower level, Hannah takes me upstairs, where sure enough, just off the staircase, is another living area to my right. That's where the large window is above the front door. It's painted a beige color and looks to be decorated for a child. There are lots of shelves stacked with toys, and across from the window is a built-in shelf that covers the entire wall. In the middle of it is a huge flatscreen TV, surrounded by books and movies. There's a large blue rug covering the main area. Across from it is a bathroom.

To the left or the stairs is Hannah and Adam's room, and past the second living area are two more bedrooms. One is decorated as a nursery; a pale yellow paint with a white crib, dresser, and changing table. Jungle animal stickers are scattered around the room and there are matching curtains and bedding for the crib to match the jungle theme. Three also jungle-themed wallpaper running along the top boarder of the room.

Next to that is what will be my room, Hannah tells me. It has a bed, dresser, nightstand, mirror and desk, which are all white. The walls are painted pale blue, and the bed has a blue and green patterned quilt on it. The curtains are a light green color and there is a matching green lamp by the bed.

"Michelle told us you like blue and green," Hannah tells me. I smile as I take it in. Never have I had a room this big, or even colored walls. "It's beautiful," I breathe. "Thanks so much." Hannah smiles and wraps an arm around my shoulder. "You're going to love it here," she whispers.

Hannah offers to help me unpack, but I tell her no because I only have a few outfits to put in the dresser drawers. "Since tomorrow's Saturday, we'll go shopping, and then see about starting up at the local school after summer's over," Hannah tells me before leaving me alone in the room.

I sight as I pull out my old clothes and stuff them into a drawer, then go downstairs where I see Hannah is making dinner. "Oh sweetie, do you have any personal hygiene items?" Hannah asks as she watches something sizzle in the frying pan. I frown and shake my head. "Well, I can run out and grab you some things after supper if you'd like," she says. I nod. "Okay."

Dinner is awkwardly quiet, and I can feel how tense Adam is. I just don't know why. I don't like dangerous or suspicious to him, do I?

After dinner, Adam instructs me to do the dishes, which I do without complaint. Hannah leaves to go to the store, and Adam hovers in the kitchen as I empty and reload the dishwasher. "You don't have to hover, I've done chores before," I say as I dry a plate and put it the cupboard. Adam huffs.

"Doesn't matter. Just because you don't look suspicious doesn't mean I have to trust you." I roll my eyes.

"I'm used to people not trusting me, they just don't usually... linger like you do," I say. I turn to look at him and see his jaw clench. After a few more minutes, he retreats to the living room, but I can tell he's still watching.

When Hannah returns, I'm glad. The tension is lessened when she's here. She comes into the kitchen and shows me what she got: a toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a few more personal items. "There's a bathroom connected to Adam and I's room, so the bathroom in the hall can be yours," she says with a smile. I thank her, then agree to sit out on the porch at Hannah's offer.

The sun is starting to set now, and the air is getting cooler, but I don't mind. It's relaxing to sit out here with Hannah. For the first time in a very long time, I feel like I actually might have a shot at finding my forever family. That is, if Adam can learn to trust me and like me.

After a few minutes, I see a small girl emerge from the house across the street. She stands outside the front door and watches us before skipping over. "Aaliyah! How've you been darling?" Hannah greets cheerfully. The girl, Aaliyah, smiles. She's very pretty. She has long brown hair, light brown eyes that sparkle, and a beautiful smile.

Hannah introduces us, and Aaliyah extends her hand. "Nice to meet you!" She chirps. I smile and shake her hand, and Hannah invites her to sit with us.

"So, why are you in foster care?" Aaliyah asks. I shrug. I don't like telling people about my history. When I do, they stare at me with sad eyes, and I don't want people to pity me because my parents decided to abandon me.

"My parents couldn't take care of me," is all I say. Aaliyah nods. "That sucks. Some people can be so mean." I nod and giggle a little. I like this Aaliyah girl. She's nice.

Once the sun is completely down, I see another figure exit the same house Aaliyah lives in. As the person jogs across the street, I can see it's a boy, who looks about my age. I can see the resemblance between him and Aaliyah.

"Aaliyah, mom says it's time to come home," he says. "Oh! Allie, this is my brother, Shawn. Shawn, this is Allie. Mrs. Stevens is fostering her." Shawn gives me a small, shy smile. I have to admit, he's kind of cute.

"Nice to meet you," he says. Aaliyah starts to babble about Shawn's upcoming tour, which I have no idea what that is or why he's going. He couldn't be famous, could he?

Shawn sighs and covers Aaliyah's mouth after shushing her fails. "Aaliyah, we really have to go," he says. I can hear the annoyance in his voice. Aaliyah sighs and gets to her feet. "Well, it was nice meeting you, Allie," she says. I smile and wave goodbye as the two walk back to their house. There's something different about Shawn than the typical teenage boy. I almost find it intriguing.
