Shawn's POV;
Today is Saturday. Since I haven't talked to Allie in a week, I decide to take her ice skating.
I feel horrible for ignoring her for a whole week. I went an entire week not talking to my girlfriend because I believed some stupid rumor going around school and the Internet. I could have at least given her the benefit of the doubt, she is my girlfriend.
"Shawn! Allie's here!" Aaliyah shouts from downstairs. I head down and see Allie standing in her winter coat, jeans, and boots. She's also wearing a hat and gloves, and she looks adorable.
"Hey," she says with a smile, and I greet her with a kiss.
"Ew," Aaliyah giggles, making a face. I make one back before she retreats to the living room.
"Ready to go?" I ask, taking Allie's hand. She nods. "Where are we going, exactly?" I smile as I play with the end of her braid. "Ice skating!" She raises her eyebrows. "I've never been ice skating before," she says with an embarrassed chuckle. "What?! How have you never been ice skating?" I question as we walk out to the truck. She shrugs. "I lived in a different house every few weeks," she states plainly, and I nod. I still feel horrible that her childhood was so jostled. She was constantly moved around and treated poorly, and sometimes I forget how reserved and skeptical she used to be around people. It's hard to believe that she acted that way due to how horribly she was treated by others.
Once we're settled in the car, I begin the short drive to the closest outdoor ice skating place, which is busy because it's a snowy Saturday.
"I've never done this before Shawn, what if I fall?" Allie whispers as I pay for our skates. I smile as we sit down on a bench to put the skates on. "That's okay. I'll be here to pick you up. After I finish laughing, of course." Allie shakes her head and slaps my arm playfully.
Once we have our skates on, I take her hand and we make our way to the ice. It's actually not too crowded, which is nice.
As soon as Allie steps on the ice, she slips. I grab her upper arm to steady her, leaving out faces inches apart. "See, I told you. I already suck at this," she says with a giggle. I can't help but notice how her green eyes sparkle when she laughs. She's so beautiful. I smirk and give her a quick peck on the lips before gently guiding her along the ice. She's extremely unsteady at first, but the more we skate the more she gets the hang of it.
Before long she's skating on her own and doesn't need to hold onto me anymore. I lace my fingers with hers and we skate slowly around the oval-shaped rink, just looking at the pretty snow and the other people.
"I'm glad you're my girlfriend," I say with a smile. Allie blushes and continues looking around before looking up at me. "I'm glad you're my boyfriend," she says back. She takes a deep breath as we continue skating. "I've never had very loving foster families," she begins. "None of them really wanted me."
"Allie, you don't have to —" she shakes her head and gives me a small smile. "I trust you. I want you to know." I look into her eyes for a long time, searching an indication that she's okay.
"Most of the families just ignored me. As long as I stayed out of the way, everything was fine. But eventually they all decided I was too much work and they couldn't take care of me anymore. Others forced me to be their slave basically. And then there was Mat. He was the one who hit me. He made me do all sorts of things for him and if I didn't do them or if I made his parents angry, he would..." She trails off, but I get the idea. I squeeze her hand tightly and she turns to look at me with an unreadable expression.
"I'm sorry," I whisper, pressing my lips to hers. She kisses back and I feel her smile into it before we pull away. She gives me small, genuine smile. "I love you too."
•••
After we ice skate for a little bit longer, we decide to go down the street to a Tim Horton's and get some hot chocolate and warm up. I pay and Allie argues, of course. I forget how self sufficient and independent she is sometimes, but seeing the way she tries to argue with me (and fails, might I point out) is very adorable.
"Oh my gosh," she states, her eyebrows raising as I grab our hot chocolate and sit down at a table.
"What?" I question. She looks up at me with her beautiful green eyes, "I graduate high school, like, soon," she says, a small smile playing at her lips. I nod. We're the same age, so once I finish this grade online, I'll be graduated, too.
"We should have a graduation party, since I don't get to graduate with you," she pouts, and I agree. "I love that idea. I'm sure my mom will be all over it," I say with a chuckle, and Allie smiles.
We sip our hot chocolate and my mind begins to wander. I'll be glad to finish high school because then I can focus more on my music career, but what about Allie? Is she planning on going to college?
"I still have to decide what I'm going to do after high school," she says, picking at the muffin I bought for her. I feel a sense of relief rush through me at this. I don't know why, but I don't want her to go away to college. I hate having a long distance relationship with her now, and her going off to college would make it even harder.
I shake the thought away, trying to focus on the moment we're in rather than what's to come.
A/N - I wrote this in study hall again, so sorry it so short and sucky😬 anyway, I'm trying to update more often! Since I have nothing to do in first period study hall, I write, so hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently:) xoxo - Em😊❤️
