Allie's POV;

I slowly open my eyes to the sound of sirens, and lots of other noises I can't make out. I try to turn my neck slowly, feeling a slight pinch of pain. I take in my surroundings, my heart hammering in my chest. I realize we're upside down, surrounded by remnants of the van and lots of broken glass.

"Allie?" Aaliyah's voice rings out, her hand still in mine. "Aaliyah?" A wave of relief floods through me when she tightens her grip.

"Are you okay?" She asks quietly. "Yeah, I think so. Are you?" She pauses and I turn my head to look at her, ignoring the pinch in my neck. "It hurts," she whimpers, her voice sounding forced.

"I know, it's going to be okay," I whisper. She lets out another forced whimper, her shaking hand trying to hold onto mine tighter.

"Allie," Another weak voice calls out to me.

Suddenly my heart drops into my stomach. Oh my god. Shawn.

"Shawn!" I exclaim, but there's no answer. My heart starts pounding again. He was just talking, wasn't he? Did I imagine him saying my name?

"Y-yeah," Shawn finally responds in between coughs and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Shawn?" Aaliyah's small voice calls out as well and I turn my head out of instinct to look at her. The pain in my neck is the least of my worries when I see her tear streaked face. Her brown eyes are dilated in fear and welling with more tears, and her face is covered in dust and blood.

"Shawn, are you okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, I think I'm good. What about you guys?"

"It h-hurts to b-breathe," Aaliyah chokes out. I try to inch closer to her and provide some sort of comfort, but my ribs ache and my seatbelt prevents me from movie any further.

"I-it's going to be okay, just hold on Lee," Shawn says, his voice cracking. I wince at the pain behind his words and squeeze Aaliyah's hand even more tightly, if it's even possible.

"How are we going to get out of here?" Aaliyah asks after another minute. "Shawn, I - I'm scared."

"It's okay, the firefighters will figure out how to help us," Shawn says. His voice wavers slightly. Is he scared? Of course he is, even I'm scared. Not to mention the fact that Aaliyah seems to be suffocating right beside me and Shawn can't do anything about it. I quickly push the thought aside.

A few minutes later, a fire fighter bends down and looks through the broken window. "Is everyone okay in here?" He calls. We all respond and tell him we're alright. He nods and I hear sounds on the other side of the van. Aaliyah whimpers. "It's okay, we're going to get you out of there," he says calmly.

A little while later, we're all safely out of the destroyed van. Now that I look at it, I'm surprised none of us died in there.

"No, I want to go with my sister," I hear Shawn plead. He sounds on the verge of tears.

"It's okay, we're all going to the same hospital, just in different ambulances," I say calmly, hoping to soothe Shawn. I notice he has a cut by his eye and his face is also dirty and bloody.

He cranes his neck past me to look at Aaliyah and I follow his gaze. The paramedics are working quickly while also trying to load her stretcher into an ambulance.

"It'll be okay, she's strong," I whisper, placing a quick kiss to Shawn's forehead. I cringe at the taste of blood before limping over to a stretcher. I probably broke some ribs and hurt my neck, but I'll survive. I wave slightly as Shawn is loaded into a third stretcher and we're all taken away.

•••

"You're all very lucky, the crash was fairly severe yet non of you experienced deadly injuries," the doctor says. We're all in the same room now with my parents, and I'm glad everyone is okay.

"We were told that your sister got very lucky," the doctor says, turning to Shawn. "Her lung was punctured in the crash, but we were able to fix it and she should be recovering nicely."

That exclaims why she was having trouble breathing. Shawn eases his way over to me and takes my hand. He's sitting in a chair between myself, seated on the couch, and Aaliyah's hospital bed. He grabs Aaliyah's hand with his other one.

Thankfully, none of us were hurt too badly. I had to get a few stitches on my forehead and forearm, Aaliyah has a twisted wrist, beside her lung needing surgery, and Shawn will be on crutches for a few days due to the fact he sprained his ankle and also needed stitches. As long as he sits though, he said he's still allowed to perform.

"Thank god you're all okay," Shawn and Aaliyah's mom says. She kisses our heads, even mine. Shawn brushes my fingers over the cut on my forehead and I give him a small smile, taking his hand and lowering it.

"It's okay, it doesn't hurt," I say softly. Shawn smiles as his parents talk some more to the doctors. We all have to spend the night for observation, but mostly we're concerned about Aaliyah since she needed surgery.

It turns out the closest hospital happened to be one in Minnesota, exactly where Shawn will be performing tomorrow night in St. Paul. I'm glad it's tomorrow and not today. We all need to rest after the accident.

Aaliyah is looking at the brace she has to wear for her wrist and playing with the Velcro.

"I'm glad we didn't die," Aaliyah says sleepily.

"Me too," Shawn whispers, squeezing her hand.

"That makes three of us," I agree, leaning my head on Shawn's shoulder.

He presses his lips to my forehead and I smile, turning my attention back to the window. It's hard to believe that the summer is already about halfway over. In late August we'll be going to Europe. It's amazing how big Shawn's getting and I can't really believe it. But I'm even more excited that I'll be able to come with Shawn.
