Damien sped on his black 2015 BMW motorcycle, his adrenaline escalating the more he was on it.
He could get anything he ever wanted and chose a motorcycle. His Harley-Davidson motorbike-his baby from he was thirteen-got destroyed just before he graduated high school.
A truck driver who could've been nothing but partially blind ran over it when he was reversing. Even up to this day, Damien still found it difficult to understand how the driver didn't spot the extremely prominent black and red motorbike. Red could be noticed from a mile away.
"Stupid fool," Damien grumbled to himself.
The pain in his arm was unbearable, but he wasn't going to stay home with Lavender barely dressed and he couldn't do anything with her.
Maybe he could have his way with her and forget the game, but he was too curious about the possible outcome of their game of pretend.
Damien pressed on the gas, anger taking over and not really understanding why. He found himself entering the two bedroom apartment, not bothering to knock because of Shavon's careless habit of keeping the doors unlocked.
Damien nodded at his best friends, the only people that he allowed to get close to him. They stared at Damien with different expressions. Shavon looked rather bored whereas Kalif kept careful eyes on Damien.
Damien dropped his helmet on the counter, sitting on a stool, and laid his head back. Still forgetting about his arm, he accidentally grazed it. "Shit," he hissed.
Shavon sat in front of Damien with his elbows on the counter and hands under his chin. "Damien, what's the deal with you and that girl?"
Damien left his house because he couldn't stand to see the fact that a woman was in front of him, purposely inducing him and expecting him to give in. He was used to breaking the rules, but he was not used to losing. That he would not do, no matter how alluring she looked with his clothes on her.
No sex, he huffed to himself, mimicking her raspy voice.
But then again they were supposed to do what couples do.
Couples kiss and touch and--
"Dude! Focus--you even brought her home," Shavon snapped, dragging him out of his thoughts.
Kalif plopped on the couch and turned the television on. "He's right. Do you like her? It's okay if you do. I like her too. She's a badass."
Damien ran his hand through his hair again, getting up to grab a beer in the fridge. "She suggested we play a game of pretend."
Shavon leaned in closer, opening the beer for Damien not out of generosity but out of eagerness. "Get to the fucking point and stop beating around the bush."
"Then shut the fuck up and stop interrupting me."
"Both of you shut up. I wanna hear this," Kalif said, eager as Shavon.
Damien played with the beer top, avoiding his friends' eager eyes. "We're pretend couples."
A burst of boisterous laughter escaped Shavon's mouth and he didn't bother hiding it. "You stupid piece of fuck! Just wow! How very devastating."
Kalif on the other hand was thrilled. "What happens if one of you falls in love?"
Damien shrugged, licking the beer from his lips. "Nothing. You lose."
