"Taylor," Lavender nodded in greeting after hugging her best friend.
Taylor didn't answer right away. Her eyes lingered on Damien's arm around Lavender's waist longer than necessary until Liam nudged her attention back to Lavender. Lavender suppressed the urge to laugh, quite amused by how Taylor couldn't hold back her sudden gaiety.
"Glad to see that you finally have a real boyfriend. Now I really know you have no heart eyes for my boyfriend." Taylor's smile was genuine and shone with relief.
"Sorry for being a bitch about your friendship. Can start over--properly?"
In response, Lavender carelessly shrugged. "Can't blame you to a certain extent. I did have a reputation after all but sure."
Liam pretended not to take interest in their conversation by trying to get Damien's attention which was waving his hand in front of Damien's face, but there was this certain smile dancing at the corner of his lips. The two women furtively exchanged happy glances.
But Damien; annoyed that he was being interrupted, glanced up with a frown and knitted eyebrows until his eyes fell on Liam. His crooked smile was on in a matter of seconds as he gave Liam a lazy salute and that guy handshake.
He hardly gave any handshake but when he did; he looked the person straight in the eye and Lavender found a certain beauty in that.
Confidence.
Control.
Guarded.
"Weirdo....." Taylor mumbled when Damien was lost in his phone again.
Apparently, he found a 'kickass' cartoon and was hooked for the last twenty-five minutes. However, did he come across that while he was supposed to be finishing his drawing for work from last night; she had no idea.
Lavender lightly tapped on Damien's chest with affection, giving him a kiss on his chin. "Yup, that's my boyfriend."
Mmm boyfriend, it tasted good on her tongue.
"Lele, I'll annoy you later. A girl's gotta eat."
Liam playfully curled his bottom lip, blinking his eyes. "Wow. He's entirely stolen you away from me."
Taylor silently watched their playful exchange and Lavender weirdly found herself understanding her facial expression way too clearly.
It seemed to say 'They are comfortable with each other but they are just best friends. And that's that.'
Lavender left them with a laugh and Damien automatically followed with his hands around hers. Their hands molded together perfectly and she sighed in content. They were made for each other.
Of course, it sounded cliché but oh what the hell, it was true.
Damien drove her to Subways for lunch, causing a certain accident when they walked in. Without a clue of what happened, one of Damien's disastrous laughter escaped his lips.
With an apology to the redhead, Lavender removed the earphones from his ear. She watched him childishly frown but not able to contain his laughter for longer than two seconds.
"Remember that time at the beach when that little girl tried to hit on me? Thank God, you didn't leave me hanging."
She joined him, completely forgetting about the redhead. "Oh yeah, and you told her that you'll charge her for illegal touching while I'm thinking who says that? It is always the young girls who come up to you. Wait--so you weren't laughing because of what you were watching?"
