Kalif slowly walked around the kitchen island with a bowl of Shayvona's scrumptious spaghetti to walk over to where Damien was seated. "If Von was here; he would've said something like this."
He dramatically bent down to Damien as if he was in shock, careful not to drop his food, and frantically touched Damien's forehead with the back of his hand. "Somebody help! My boy just caught feelings."
Even in Damien's drunken state; he managed to crack a giggle which was followed by a burp. Kalif slid down next to his best friend, taking a swig from the whiskey bottle that was in Damien's hand; to swallow down the food that got stuck in his throat from his greedy eating.
"Then he would've laughed, and tell you to suck it up 'cause you're acting like a bitch."
"What did I tell you boys about swearing around my unborn child?" Shavon's baby momma scolded, walking up to them with a loaf of bread in her hand.
From the day Shavon was in the hospital she had been staying with Kalif because she had nowhere to go. Her father burned down the house that they lived in. Thankfully, Shavon saved both her and her mother's life out of the hands of her drunken father.
Kalif swiftly swallowed what was in his mouth to answer her. "But it isn't even three mon-"
"Did you just refer to my child as it?"
"No I meant her, he, him, they....the baby! I meant the ba-"
The look in her eyes stopped Kalif from completing his sentence. He nodded in respect, digging into his food again.
"You have talking eyes...just like Lavender," Damien slurred, taking another mouth full. She winced, hating the fact that he was drunk because it reminded her of her father, but he wasn't abusive so it was an exception.
At the mention of this, Shayvona made her way down with the boys. Kalif was about to help her, but again the look in her eyes stopped him.
"Here, eat this," Shayvona said, handing Damien the bread and taking the bottle from his hand. "It'll help get that whiskey out of your system quicker."
At first, Damien was reluctant. He didn't want to eat the damn bread, nor did he want her to take his whiskey away from him, but it was extremely difficult to resist her pleading eyes. She didn't have to say much after.
"Mmmm, just like Lavender," Damien murmured to himself, looking away distantly with a faint smile and ripping the bread angrily with his teeth.
Shayvona reached over Kalif to place the bottle out of Damien's reach. Kalif stopped eating to help her, but she shook her head. "Kalif, I always appreciate your help but I'm fine. Really, I am. My bump isn't even showing yet. Just eat your food, sweety."
"Rose, Lavender, and now you? Why are women so independent when they practically need us, men?"
Shayvona chuckled, leaning her head on Damien's shoulder and resting her hand on Kalif's knee.
"I have no idea who this mysterious Lavender is that you keep mentioning, but you are in love with her huh?"
"But how does it feel to be in love?" Damien questioned with the tone of a curious three-year-old, laughing out loudly and leaving the others in confusion.
"If she was here, she was going to scold me for answering a question with a question."
Kalif sighed, squeezing Shayvona's hands firmly. "Easy! Once you're in love it's like the other person completes you. They can be both your strength and your weakness. They bring out the best in you and understand you. To-"
