After dipping the towel in hot water and wrenching it out; Damien placed it on Lavender's bruises that were on her jaw and forehead. It wasn't until he placed it under her eye did she stir with a faint groan.

His insides twisted with what seemed like happiness at the sight of finally seeing her awake and better.

The swelling had gone down. She stirred again, her eyes peeled open by the inchmeal. Prepared, he kept some water on the nightstand for whenever she woke up. He guided the straw between her chapped lips, watching as she sipped the water painfully.

She looked around, softly sighing; "Thanks, how long have I been out?"

"Two days."

At the sound of this Lavender shot up, but was forced back down from the pain. Damien glared at her with worry, placing his hands on her shoulders. She rested her head back on the pillow, gulping. "I missed work and Liam was supposed to give me some information."

"I informed both of them that you've been injured, and Jessie said that you can return to work when you're better. As for Liam, he's been calling every four hours."

This time she tried getting up slowly, but made no progress because Damien held her down. "Why does it hurt so much? A few punches can't be that painful, right?"

"Point of correction, that woman stabbed you, and please stop trying to get up. You'll make the pain worse."

A thousand tiny lines made their way on Lavender's forehead. Her lips puckered up in confusion. "When? I didn't feel a thing."

Damien himself didn't realize that she had been hurt until he laid her in the backseat of his car. His shirt was wet and sticky from the blood that he thought belonged to him, but checked her and saw Lavender's deep wound at her side.

Unlike Lavender he didn't know how to treat an open wound, so he asked Shavon for help because he was majoring in the medical field.

"Yeah, that happens when your blood is hot. You don't feel the pain until afterward. By the way, Shavon stitched up the wound."

"How did you manage to persuade him to do that? I'm sure he hates my guts even more for getting you into trouble again," she chuckled as she bit the inside of her cheek. "Hand me my phone please."

"Liam," she said immediately when he answered. "Yeah, I'm better. Gosh, yes I'm fine."

She glanced at Damien with an impressed smile, confusing him. "So you sent a picture of the contents of the guys' wallet to Liam and also figured out that the number didn't belong to the man?"

He nodded. "Whoever is behind this isn't trying to be caught. The number is someone else's, and they damaged the phone before it could be traced."

Lavender nodded, her face filled with calculation. "Liam, you got nothing at all? Nada? How is that even possible?...I've got to find the person behind this... uh yeah, okay. Laters."

After hanging up, she was thinking even harder. It was easy for Damien to figure that out because she did that thing where she would gaze and bite her bottom lip. He found himself enjoying that though and forced himself to concentrate.

"Do you think anything will be traced to us?"

"No. The guy destroyed all of the cameras before you arrived at the scene."

"Don't worry, we'll figure who's behind this."

Lavender snapped her attention to him, her nostrils flaring. "We? There's no we, Damien. I'm not going to lead you further into danger."
