"Finally! Mija! You've come to me."Although Spanish was not her mother's first language, she was always called mija by her mother. And hearing her mother call her it again, only made her cry. This was so surreal to her, so she touched her mother as proof that she wasn't insane.
"Mami! I thought I'd never see you again." Lavender shook in disbelief and excitement. "I thought you were-"
"Of course not, dear. I'd never neglect you on purpose. I'm sorry that you've had to suffer for so many years. You had to grow up before your time."
Her mother hugged unto her tightly. Lavender latched unto her mother, but something felt out of place.
Lavender hoped she wasn't making an erroneous assumption.
But.......
Lavender closed her mouth shut, stopping herself from giving her mother a response. She stared in confusion. This was too close to reality.
She was actually face to face with her mother, having a normal conversation.
She pulled back.
"You're not real. This isn't real. You died in front of me."
"Silly child," her mother laughed with tears welling up in her eyes. "This is very much real. Stay with me."
"MOM! I can't stay."
Dying would be too easy.
If she died now; all the suffering, lies, and heartache would be over.
Dying at that moment was tempting, but Lavender wasn't ready to give up yet. That man couldn't win. He had already caused too much damage.
Lavender pushed her mother off of her. The sobbing grew louder. The clouds tumbled together, the air colder.
"Mija, please stay with me. That man is bad news."
"How do you kno-"
"That's not the point. Please stay with me." Her mother tugged on her dress in desperation. "Why won't you stay with me?"
And instantly Lavender's thoughts ran to a conversation she had with Damien.
"What made you wait?" Damien questioned. At that moment as they sat under the moonlight in the balcony with the light hitting his features just right, he became art.
Lavender smiled through her confusion, cherishing the moment of tranquillity.
"Why...didn't you sleep with anyone else before me?" Damien fully elaborated. "Did you make a vow to wait after marriage?"
"No." She sat up next to him, brushing her hair behind her ear. "We're not married, aren't we?"
Damien made sure to add a "Yet." with a wink.
"I just didn't want to sleep with the first guy that told me that he loves me or made beautiful promises just to lay in bed with me. People wait until marriage and still don't last. Waiting after marriage would've been cool and everything," she shrugged, "but my concern was more of giving myself up to someone worth it. Someone I trust and feel comfortable with."
She scooted closer to him with bright eyes and a light tap to his nose. "You, my Prince Charming happens to fit perfectly into that category."
Lavender giggled as she watched Damien smile meekly with furrowed eyebrows. It was amusing to see this dominant man's soft side. The side that only she had the power to bring out.
