Chapter 169: Nobody Said It Was Easy
Regulus: —Impotent fools. How big must your egos be to just appear, harm me, and then run again? If you wish to appeal to a greater moral standing than myself then at least act with honor in your vain efforts. It is precisely because you are not above myself that the efforts you struggle with here are fruitless. Not even to mention how neither of you possesses the right to label your actions in a way that correlates with a higher or grander purpose, as if such a notion could be measured anyway. The only possible way for things to end here would be for us to come to an understanding, and that can only begin once there is compensation given to myself for the hardships I've languished. Until then, we—
In the midst of his appeal, Regulus stood with his arms crossed, aware his voice was reaching the ones who currently went about pestering him, but also unsure of where they were exactly.
From behind him, concealed by the rubble of a nearby building, Subaru stuck out his whip toward the Sin Archbishop of Greed, lashing the end around his leg that was clad in white fabric. Normally, such an action would have stung the leg of whoever had been wrangled, and certainly would have sullied such white fabric. Yet, because of the Authority Regulus sported, that wasn't the case, and would continue that way until Emilia and Algol returned with some sort of update on what Subaru had asked them to find out.
Regulus: —GAH!
With a tug, Regulus fell face forward onto the ground with the whip taking away his balance before he could properly react and use his Authority correctly.
Regulus: Tch...
Completely unharmed, and not even made dirty from the damp dust he landed in, Regulus first looked to where the whip had grabbed him from. Before he even attempted to stand, he cupped his hands with some of the debris he had fallen on, and imparting his Authority again, —Lion's Heart, upon that within his hand, he let loose what was essentially a shotgun blast of all-penetrating lethal projectiles toward whoever held the whip.
Yet, as soon as he did, suddenly the whip pulled his leg off in a completely different direction than he had felt the leather-weapon come from. Not only did this cause his counterattack to completely go astray, it also greatly surprised him.
With the strength the whip was yanked with, it was something he knew Subaru couldn't muster, which only meant—
Subaru: —Batter up!
In the time Regulus had fallen, the whip had been passed to another set of hands, and with it being yanked with an augmented amount of strength, he was swung around until—
Regulus: —Agh!
Slingshot into more rubble, Regulus' Authority of course kept him unharmed, but by doing so, he wantonly careened through several buildings' worth of distance before he again was able to stop himself by using his Authority on a solid enough structure to halt his momentum.
At that distance, it bought these two another few minutes to talk.
Stepping out into the light rain, both Subaru and YN emerged from the shadowy ruins of one of the many destroyed buildings that Regulus, their foe, had trashed.
Truth be told though, between themselves and the buildings, it was a close competition for who was in rougher shape.
Subaru was already battered from the fighting. Bruises covered him, the effects of the Dragon Blood still visible along his forearm and leg, while his clothes were left torn and ragged from the fight thus far.
