Chapter 147: Hello Darlin'
The light coming from between the gap in the curtains, since the sun had first risen early this morning, had been ever gliding across the room as it rose higher in the sky. Finally, its bright, near-afternoon ray landed upon YN's closed eyes, and irritating him with the illumination, he was at long last forced to awake.
Still drowsy, his unadjusted eyes shut again as soon as the harsh sunlight pierced his vision, which had done an adequate job of stirring his consciousness just enough to put an end to his rest.
Truth be told, he had gone to bed late enough that light had already begun to peek through that gap in the curtains, but had thought he made sure to close them enough to where this wouldn't be a problem.
Inclined to wake up now, it would have reminded Subaru of his days of NEET-dom; going to bed at the first light of dawn, but arising late enough to hear his father come home from work.
YN shuffled over to the window now, and figured he should at least try to make this moment the first of a new day. Parting the curtains, he looked out across the gardens and landscaping of this newer, bigger mansion. He was still only just getting familiar with the property, inside and out.
Turning around, he looked back on the emptiness of this room that was his own. Since each of the old Mansion's most recent residents were fully ingrained into the Camp as true members of the household now, at this new Mansion, —Roswaal's true Manor, no longer did any of them simply stay in the guest quarters with meager rooms.
Subaru, being Emilia's knight, and Beatrice, —by extension, since she was Subaru's contracted spirit, as well as Otto, —the camp's Internal Affairs manager, all stayed in this new Mansion's actual residency corridor. Essentially master bedrooms with their own washrooms, water closets, and walk-in wardrobes, they were much more well furnished than the servant quarters Ram, Frederica, Petra, and Garfiel stayed in.
However, it was in those same servant quarters that YN also stayed.
More or less, it was of the same quality room as the one he'd had before, in the old Mansion. At first, he'd been offered one of these same, nicer rooms on the next floor above, which, also housed the Mansion's largest bedrooms; those that belonged to Roswaal, and the penthouse that Emilia took residence in above that.
It was when these rooms were divided out upon everyone coming here, that YN had surrendered his own.
While it had at first caused quite a fuss, given it was the Camp's own Seneschal opting to not occupy a space that reflected his title, it was only once everyone else saw who YN preferred to have it, could none speak a single word of argument against that.
"—I just want her to be as comfortable as she can be." was his biggest concern.
Later on in private, it had been YN's suggestion for Rem and Ram to share the room so that way the latter could more easily look after the former. Ram had opposed it though on the grounds it would make it difficult for YN himself to visit Rem were it also her own quarters.
And truth be told, he had been grateful for Ram's suggestion.
Every night it seemed, he would stay by the blue-haired girl's bedside, unable to sleep. It would only come with the songs of the morning doves, before the rise of the sun, that he'd finally depart for his own room.
That of course, helped form this awful sleeping habit he currently maintained, making him wake up when he did, much like today. Far past breakfast time, it was rare for YN to attend even lunch in the past month they'd all been in this new Mansion.
