Chapter 154: Between Illness and Truth

"Achoo"

Perhaps only a day after the maids and everyone else had been back in the Mansion, so had began Ram's bout with seasonal illness.

YN: —Nee-sama, here, I brought some tea that Frederica made.

Aware from the moment he had gotten up as late as he continued to do, YN had been the only one of the Mansion's residents brave enough, and successful enough, to get Ram to return to her bed after stubbornly trying and failing to tend to her duties.

In all actuality, Ram had risen only a short while before YN typically would. By coincidence, though, he had remained awake around the time she was usually meant to prepare Roswaal's morning tea. Seeing she was going to miss that duty, YN took it upon himself to brew the tea, while Frederica went to rouse their employer as Ram normally did.

After the semi-successful coverage for Ram, the golden-haired maid directly ordered YN back to his own bed to finally rest, upset that he stayed awake so late into the morning like this.

In the early afternoon, Ram, in a fit to prove her usefulness as a maid, forced her achy body to raise, even if late, and try to go about her tasks. Neither Frederica, Petra, Subaru, nor even Roswaal were able to dissuade her from pushing on, and only once YN had awoken and was told of her current state and behavior, finally got the oni to at least take a break.

It was during that pause for rest that Ram collapsed from lightheadedness, and YN caught her. Essentially unable to fight back, the Seneschal carried her sick-self back to her room despite the maid's weak protests, and hailed for Frederica to assist in that.

At this juncture, YN had gone about getting the oni some tea to help her condition whilst Frederica settled her into bed to rest.

Handing the cup off to Ram, YN awaited a judgment upon his brewing whilst Frederica stood by.

Ram: — — —

Gently setting the cup down, Ram laid back more in her bed and turned to her fellow maid.

Ram: Frederica. How many years have you been in service to Roswaal-sama?

Furrowing her golden-brow to her Ram's sudden question, Frederica was slow to answer.

Frederica: Longer than yourself... Is this sickness now taking away your ability to recall things?

Her last few words being somewhat contended with worry, Ram lazily waved away that concern as she responded, not wanting to cause a misunderstanding.

Ram: Ram is as sharp as ever. She just cannot fathom how it is YN is capable of brewing a better cup of tea than she is.

Clicking her tongue at Ram's snarky way of complimenting YN's tea versus hers, Frederica pouted.

Frederica: Than shall I leave your care to him then? I do have dinner to work on preparing, but for as much of a gentleman as YN is, he may still be lacking a more feminine approach to care should you require it.

More or less saying if all Ram was going to do was belittle her, Frederica would leave the rest of her needs to YN out of spite, even if she specifically required her help.

To this perspective dry threat though, Ram called it.

Ram: YN is someone who has Ram's utmost trust. If she can without a shred of doubt leave Rem in his care, then Ram cannot think of a more upstanding custodian for her own care.

Frederica: Very well then. I shall leave you under his responsibility.

Turning to face YN, Frederica spoke in a way that did not have her same irritation directed towards him.
