Practically jumping out of the car the second Algol had moved her seat forward, she'd only not been run over as a result by Garfiel because her surprise to what was outside was just as high strung as his was.
Algol: ...Do you see that?!
Garfiel: I ain't never knew a buildin' could be so big!
From the direction they had entered the city from, specifically to not draw overwhelming attention to the car, was the unique and very out-of-place appearing industrial district.
There were foundries, warehouses, and storage places here; things YN typically associated with the more "blue collar" parts of cities he'd been to in this world. However, it was Roswaal's direct involvement in this town, given the proximity of his estate and his title as Margrave, that this city had a certain exclusivity in its technology.
The first time Ram had brought him through this part of Costuul, YN was stunned he had missed such a phenomenon when he had spent that rainy night here with Rem on the trip to Saluzzo.
This is practically the world's ground zero for the industrial revolution...
From enterprises Roswaal had either started, partnered with, or invested in, this city had a robust industrialization going on. Dotted amongst the typical things one might see in the working areas of any local metropolis in Lugunica, this one was also home to entire textile warehouses, basic assembly lines, and processing plants you otherwise might not expect to see anywhere else. —Perhaps even in the whole world.
Ram at first hadn't understood YN's sudden fascination with the concepts, but out of her own kindness to him, and hoping it would do something to better his reclusive behavior, she diligently went about explaining how Roswaal was the backer for the majority of these ventures given the technology relied heavily on an invention of his own; magicreation tools.
While YN had heard that term in passing being spoken before, and knew Roswaal had some involvement in it, once he learned this was the Mather's family legacy, it suddenly made sense as to why Roswaal had such opulent wealth.
For the goals he has, I guess it tracks he'd have a cash-cow level of income to help fund it.
As to why Elsa could be provided twenty holy coins for the job she was hired for way back when the two wayward traveling companions had first arrived in this world, now suddenly made sense.
Had it not been for this all stemming from Roswaal's family legacy, I'd have immediately assumed it was Subaru who was selling him these ideas. But now I'm only left to wonder if these were legitimately thought out, and this is a natural progression of technology, like the beginning of the Renaissance, or another other-worlder like us kick-started it.
YN was aware of the historical figure Hoshin, and how he had brought what he assumed was Edo period Japanese culture to Kararagi, but as to if this industrialized technology was another byproduct of other worldly intervention, he has no clue.
Ya know... Given Roswaal's goals were dictated by Echidna in the Book of Wisdom he had... I wonder if she was feeding him this technology through the text... And if any innovations were being carefully curated and developed according to her time-line.
He had pondered this as Ram had flaunted YN's title as Seneschal, and her own as Roswaal's personal maid, to allow themselves access to a few of the facilities directly owned by the Margrave, simply so YN could better view them.
I know I only ever told Rem, but I really, really wanted to tell Ram about the fact I'm from another world, and that all this was a lot like it.
