Chapter 1
I take a deep breath as I observe the broken floor. The freaking floor has a giant hole. I put a hole in the floor. Is that even possible? I sigh in frustration as I look at it but am anxious because I'm late to work. Hesitantly, I took a step away for it and rushed towards the door. I opened the door as quick as I could and shut. I exited the run down apartment and headed down the street to my job. My apartment has always had vines climbing up the building and broken parts on it. Of course, with this kind of building I live in a bad neighborhood. I, cautiously maneuvered through the streets. I saw the diner and I checked the time on my worn out watch I bought for less than twenty dollars. I was one minute left and I dashed. Finally, I entered with sweat coating my face and my breath ragged. I entered the diner and heard the familiar clatter of plates. "Late!" My boss yelled. A vein popped out of her neck and she was red. She hates me ever since that incident.

"I'm only a minute late," I sigh. She bit her lip that had too much lipstick on. A big part was coming off and showed her chapped lips.

"I don't excuse tardiness young lady. If you don't want this job keep your yaking," she spits and I flinch and her spit lands on my face. She turns and walks towards her office. Sighing, I wipe the spit off my face. I started to grab my long blonde hair and tie it up in a bun. I tied on an apron and went for the grill.

"Rough day?" A voice asked. I turned and saw it was Rhonda. She had lengthy brown hair with little blonde highlights. Her eyes were a beautiful deep brown color.

"Yeah," I sighed and she frowned. Suddenly she gave a sad smile.

"It will get better soon," she smiles. I nod and smiled at her.

"Thanks Rhonda, you're the best," I said in a chirpy voice.

"Thanks honey. You're a good child now go on and get working before boss comes out and fires us both," she says sternly. I nod and she walks away and I get to work.

I finally returned home and see a black envelope laying on the ground. I knelt down and picked the flimsy envelope up. I read the front to see who it was to. It was to me. In carefully written letters, it spelled Aralynn Taylor Cadwell. I opened the envelope. I slipped out easily. I opened the folded letter up and read it.

Dear Aralynn Taylor Cadwell,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Headmistress Vanez Wallin of Rosette University. I would like to announce that you have been chosen to attend this university on a scholarship. We will offer you a deal if you accept than everything will be settled.

I sucked in a breath when I saw the letter. I can't go. I know I can't. Before my parents left, they told I was not allowed to take any test on ability because something was wrong. Wait but who said there's was this kind of test. I can try it but if I have to take a test than I'll leave there's no harm in that. I continued the letter.

Here's the deal, you will attend this university cost free. We will pay for all of your debts, we know about those. You may think this is suspicious but I assure you this will be a good decision and there is no motive behind it. You are in good hands. In return, you will become a Gaurd when you graduate. This is your choice, choose wisely.
Sincerely,
Headmistress Vanez Wallin

I wanted to go. I gripped my pen and signed my signature on the paper. It glided on as I watched myself just sign. Before changing my mind, I shoved the letter in and put it in the mailbox. I, reluctantly, walked back inside. I questioned my decision but shook my head and decided I can't go back now...
