Chapter 27
"So... What do you want to do?" He asked. I sighed and shrugged when I saw a paintball place. My eyes glinted as I saw that. I knew what we we're going to do today. I pointed towards the building that was worn down. He tilted his head towards me and grinned. "Paintball?" He asked.

"Hell yeah," I grinned too. I feel like everyone was staring at us grinning like idiots. We walked towards the tan building.

"Race you there," Dallas shouts as he starts to run. I run after him, laughing.

"Hey! You dirty, dirty cheater," I accused. He gave me an innocent look and I roll my eyes. I started gaining on him. His eyes wide when he realized I was becoming faster.

"I'm dirty but I'm not a cheater!"he laughed as he ran faster. He grinned at his joke as a disgust started to form on my face. Gross. I smirked as I went faster and I was, once again, gaining on him. He looked back, in surprise when I was I foot away from him. As I passed him, I grinned and did a victory dance. Everyone who passed by gave me a weird look. Dallas gave me one and he just stared. I stopped and he kept his gaze on me. My eyebrow started to curve inwards, in confusion. I rubbed my face to see if anything on it.

"What?" I questioned. An unknown looked crossed his eyes once again. I disappeared as quickly as it came. He snapped out of his weird trance and shook his head.

"Huh? Oh, nothing," he replied, nonchalantly. I rolled my eyes at his reaction because he soon became his normal self. "You ready to go down?" He grinned.

"Honey, the only person going down is you," I made a grin matching his. "Whoever loses gets to pay," I said, smugly. His grin only brightened.

"You're on," he challenged. You know what they always say, first time's the charm. I giggle at my joke and Dallas looked at me as if I were crazy. "What?" He asked, slowly. I shrugged when we entered the plain room. It had lockers, gear, and people. It was packed. We both got a locker and changed into opposing gear and went towards the entrance. We swerved through people as mumbled some excuse me and thank you.

"If you're ready, press the button on your side," the man on the intercom announced. I was about ready and I slapped the button. I guess Dallas was too because the man started counting down. There was cover everywhere and I scanned my surrounding area. I approached the end of the wall as I peaked over. I heard a very silent sound of shuffling approaching. It got louder and louder but there was no person. I stay in position as my heart thundered. Adrenaline pumped through my body as I heard someone get up and run towards me. I peaked over the edge and saw Dallas at full speed and I tumbled back into another cover. I watched as Dallas looked around. I aimed at him as my finger rested on the trigger. I sucked in a breath as I pulled it. An echoe of the gun shot through the room. It's either I got it or not. The moment of silence, that was so thin but felt like forever, was filled with anxiety and hope.

"Shot down!" The man called out through the intercom. "One to zero. The girl won," he continued. I grinned at Dallas as pink started to form on his cheek.

"Rematch!" Dallas called out. His light flickered off and the match reset.

"If you're ready, press the button on your side," he called out, once more. I took a deep breath, settling the nerves in my stomach. I slapped my side once more as the battle commenced.

"Go!" The man shouted and I ran to the nearest cover. The same play won't happen twice so I charged for his side. I stayed on high alert as nothing was heard but breathing.

"Boo," a voice spot and chills ran down my spine as I twisted. He was about to shoot when I held the gun and twisted it. Too shocked, he shot it but it missed. I flipped him to the ground but his weight pulled me down with him. My head bounced on his chest. He stiffened at the movement and I took my head off, immediately. I came face to face with him and we stared at each other. I couldn't form any words as I looked at him. I felt a gun to my back and a shot. He leaned into me and waited there for a second.

"I got you and now we're even," he whispered and shock ran through my body. My heart pounded as the man's voice came on.

"One, one. Tie," he called out and I got up from Dallas. He got up too and he smirked. We exited the room and went to the cashier.

"That'd be $40.36," the scrawny guy said. Just when I was about to pay my share, Dallas paid for it.

"What are you doing?" I asked, annoyed. He shrugged as he walked towards the exit.

"We have to find Crash now," Dallas said as his face twisted in unsatisfaction and that emotion again. What?

"Yeah," I said. We walked towards the way Crash went. That was one weird reaction.
